In recent years,as a drive device a split-phase start induction motor fed by one pulse PWM inverter (=ISM) has been employed in industrial machines, home appliances, office automation equipments, and so on. This type motor,IBM is required to provide a large average torque and a small effect of the alternating torque on the average torque.
In this paper, firstly, for the split-phase start induction motors fed by one pulse PWM inverter, the relationship between the equivalent circuit parameters and various generating torque characteristics is investigated numerically. On the base of the results obtained, the influence of the parameters on the various generating torque characteristics and it's tendency are clarified.
Secondly, a guideline is presented using the equivalent circuit parameters, for the split-phase start induction motor design which has the desirable generating torque characteristics; namely, (l) the average torque is large and (2) the effects of the alternating torque on the average torque is small.
Finally,in order to verify the validity of our new strategy, the trial split-phase start induction motor designed by the various improving redesign conditions has been compared with the conventional ones.
