Silikaltsiit was invented by Dr. Johannes Hint of U. S. S. R. in 1948. This quite new construction material, mineralized from silica and lime, still has many unknown factors for practical use.
Authors obtained hydraulic data on roughness coefficient of silikaltsiit from laboratory test for its adaptation to the construction of channels.
The experimental installation was 26 meter long and consiste of 13 U-flumes, made of the material and 2 meters long each, as in Fig. 1 and 2.
The shape of water surface in the flume was measured under various values of channel slope
I and discharge
Q (see Table 1).
The results made sure that the roughness coefficient “n” in Manning's formula for the flume of the material is within the range 0.0082-0.0104. This furnishes a quite smooth boundary for flow.
From analytical reseacrch of the experimental data, based on logarithmic distribution low of velocity, it was clarified that the coefficient “
C” in Chézy's formula can expressed as :
C=9.72+17.49log
10 (
Rc/C)
This equation shows the flume of the new material follows thc resistance of smooth channel.
