Systems Development Lifecycle consists of four phases: Planning, Analysis, Design, and Implementation. In the SDLC, needs and expectations of information system users, i.e., information users, are mainly studied from the standpoint of IT at the analysis phase, but occasions and methods to feedback information users' needs and expectations from the standpoint of businesses to systems development are very restricted after the implementation phase. Information quality is defined as degree of fitness for use of information provided by information systems, and increasingly more researches have recently been devoted to it. This research discusses that measurement of information quality would constitute a feedback from information users to systems planning and development after the implementation phase, and introduce two topics useful to link the feedback to systems improvement.
In Japan, we have to change design approach that applies SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) to business information system. Software and business information system are quite different article. Every business organization has to establish data quality and security assurance mechanism. Data should express facts of business. Such data changes mental model of people and aligns organization with real business world.
It is a very critical factor for getting of strategic advantages in competitive market that a firm collects, processes and distributes the information of high quality. So we need to develop the method to enhance information quality. This paper tries some introductory discussions with intent to contribute to development efforts for it. First, we make inquiries into the importance of developing the conceptual scheme and it's characteristics. The evaluation of information quality is subjective because of user's interests, his or her context to decision-making, experiences and so on. Therefore, we need to develop any evaluation map of information quality. This paper examines the characteristics of such a map. After depicting aspiration level of information quality, we must start any action for improving information quality. Secondly, this paper examines some approaches for it.
The concept of the information quality is defined as the fit for use. And, there are two problems to secure the use adaptability. That is, (l)to clarify the user, and (2)to present the context of the information use(the context of user). However, to begin with, it is an extremely difficult issue to fix "Who is the user of information?" At this time, the key word of "Corporate Household" gives the clue of the fixation of the information user. Then, in this paper, the meaning in the strategy of the Corporate Household is discussed. Especially, the impact that the idea of the Corporate Household gives to the ideal way of "Information Sharing" is considered in Supply Chain Management through the case of TABIO. In addition, it is pointed out to be able to institutionalize the context of the information use and to become it by enhancing the idea of the Corporate home.
Information quality is determined by the interactions between the sender (s) and the receiver (s) of information as the quality of general products is determined by the interaction between the manufacturer and the customers. Possible quality of information is created by the interactions between the active fields in the communication network to which the information producer belongs. A conjecture of the strong positive correlation between the quality of an information product and the communication level is derived by this model and supported by the results of an actual research for the manufacturers of general products.
In the modern society, maintenance of the Internet advances as social infrastructure. In such a society, as the quality of the information to circulate is various, the information literacy of the person using information is important, to ascertain the quality. In this paper, I examined "information quality professional" as an expert to send information and argued about necessary ability for it. Ability for information interpretation is needed to an information quality professional. The ability consists of "means / technology for interpretation" and "the ability to read context, and to assemble interpretation". Furthermore, the latter was subdivided to "cognition" "selectivity" "ability to constitute a sentence". In addition, in comparison with the information literacy, I pointed out that ability for information interpretation had a relation of mutual inclusion with information literacy partially. Furthermore, a process of the proficiency was important for the training of the ability for information interpretation and suggested that there was a difficult part in the measurement of the ability.
Every member has to decide on nonprogramed problems quickly, because the organizational environments are changing. In nonprogramed decision-making, he/she synthetically uses the grapevine (i.e. the rumor), in which value does not become defined, as well as formal information to make decision. The information quality in an organization is the usefulness of the information concerned in decision-making. In order for information to be useful to decision-making, information is shared by continuous communication before decision-making, and it is necessary to agree on the semantic interpretation of ambiguous information among members. However, communication may be divided or make a decision-making person fall into a surfeit of information conversely. Therefore, in this paper we paid attention to the organizational communication, and mentioned the method for improving information quality by continuous communication.
Successful quality management of personal data on consumption behaviour is vital for most business organisations in the consumer-oriented business environment; it should enhance customer satisfaction and contribute to build a favourable relationship with their individual customers. Although the widespread availability of information and communication technology (ICT) has made it easier for business organisations to collect, store, process and use personal data, ensuring the high quality of personal data is not easy for any business organisation. In order to wrestle with the difficult challenge of personal data quality management, business organisations should extend the scope of data quality management and develop the "transparent" data quality management systems which can continually ensure accuracy and up-to-dateness of personal data they collect.
We have recently focused on information quality (IQ) since companies and individuals have activated information distribution. In general, IQ highly depends on the policy and the action of information disseminators, so I think that it involved many problems for IQ. Companies which are major disseminators, especially, have regarded information quality assurance (IQA) for information dissemination as one of the critical factors in management as well as corporate governance. In this paper, I discuss the development of IQA for information dissemination strategy by companies. First, I explain the importance and the role of information dissemination strategy such as the strategy based on "Concierge-Concept" I proposed. Then I propose a method, called as "Information Escrow", in order to practice the IQA for the information dissemination strategy, and I indicate the possibility of the method in the future.
Information quality management in organisations is now a decisive factor of quality of organisational behaviour and, therefore, of quality of life of a wide range of people who are affected by the organisations. In this regard, organisational information quality management should be open to societies, i.e. organisations have to accept their social responsibility concerning quality of information they collect, store, process, create and use. In order to establish socially responsible information quality management, organisations should secure and/or cultivate decision makers with high ability of conversation and sympathising as well as of interpretation and information editing and encourage information managers and information system professionals in the organisations to develop their professional outlook.
