Service is the process of co-creating value by integrating the resources of products, services, the provider organization, its employees, and customers. The Society of Serviceology was established in 2012 to promote research to improve co-created value and improve productivity in services, and has been working on the fusion of social science and engineering, collaboration between academia and industry, and international cooperation. This will provide a comprehensive introduction to topics of growing interest in the Society of Serviceology.

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of and responses to uncertainty avoidance and manufacturing culture as corporate cultures that have been identified as obstacles to the servitization of manufacturing in Japan. For the purpose of cultural comparison, a quantitative survey of manufacturing executives in Sweden and Japan, which have symmetrical cultures, was conducted. The analysis revealed that uncertainty avoidance, which was assumed to be higher in Japan in previous studies, was higher in Japan, and conversely, investment in long-term relationships with customers was higher in Sweden. On the other hand, most of the factors were found to have no effect on servitization in Japan, but only the perfection of quality in manufacturing culture was found to have a positive effect. In Sweden, uncertainty avoidance and Monozukuri culture were found to have a negative impact on servitization, and these factors that have a negative impact on servitization had a positive impact on service infusion. It is clear that in Sweden, uncertainty can be an obstacle for transitioning to a business with uncertainty such as services, while in Japan, on the contrary, perfection is pursued even in services.

ISO 23592 and ISO/TS 24082 about service excellence were published in June 2021, followed by the corresponding JIS publications. These are international standards for developing excellent organizations and services to increase customer loyalty through the creation of outstanding customer experiences. They include high-level requirements and recommendations on management and design. This paper introduces and discusses these standardization activities and the relationship with service research and synthesis-oriented engineering.

Road traffic, public transportation such as railways and buses, and other sectors of transportation are not only highly specialized areas traditionally overseen by experts, but they also underpin our daily movements and directly impact our lives. Furthermore, there is a significant number of enthusiasts among the general public, and trends in this sector often garner considerable attention. In this presentation, while focusing on the crucial role of IT in transportation, we will discuss the potential of Civic Tech in the transportation sector, considering its historical context.

Information technology in disaster response support is expected in floods and landslides, which are becoming larger, more widespread, and more frequent due to climate change, as well as in huge earthquakes, such as the Nankai Trough earthquake, which is feared to occur. Civic Tech in disaster risk management will be discussed with some practical example in recent disasters.

The text discusses the evolving landscape of local issue resolution, highlighting the shift from traditional administrative and governmental approaches to more citizen-driven methods. Traditional means primarily involved administrative organizations and elected local councillors. However, the growing complexity and diversification of citizen needs have out-paced the capabilities of these traditional structures. Civic tech is defined as the use of technology by citizens to actively shape their society. It's a response to the limitations of conventional approaches in addressing local and social issues. Notable examples include the ‘Code for America’ initiative in the U.S., Japan's technological response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's development of a COVID-19 dashboard. These initiatives represent a significant shift towards a more networked, grassroots form of democracy, expanding the scope and impact of public administration studies. The report emphasizes the growing significance of civic tech in Japan, underscoring its potential to reshape academic perspectives and address societal challenges more effectively. This paradigm shift towards civic tech showcases a more engaged and technologically empowered form of community involvement and problem-solving.

I discuss the possibility and the question sociologically on thedeployment of civic tech in Japanese civic society. I deal with the present situation and the problem on the cooperation between citizen and administration and the issues to consider after the covid-19 experiences. I also argue the problem about Wikipedia especially gender gap and the democracy , additionally the accessibility to society for handicapped.
