A commensal hydroid Monobrachium parasitum MERESCHKOWSKY, 1877 associated with a new host bivalve, Cadella lubrica (GOULD, 1861), is described based on five colonies collected from the bottom of the sea off Yubetsu, Hokkaido, Japan taken at a depth of about 55 m. Every colony shows an undescribed colony form by the presence of a plate-like hydrorhiza with one stolonial extension. This is not only the southernmost distributional record of this species in the Sea of Okhotsk but also the first record in Japanese waters.

Bipalium hilgendorfi (VON GRAFF, 1899) (Turbellaria, Tricladida, Terricola) is a species described at first from the vicinity of Tokyo (an old name, Edo ; also spelled as Yedo or Yeddo), Japan, under the name of Perocephalus hilgendorfi ; the species was redescribed by KABURAKI (1922) based upon a single sexual specimen from Mt. Takao-yama, near Tokyo. This old species is redescribed in the present paper from a modern taxonomic viewpoint based upon sufficient material of the Sapporo locality. Living animals (55-80mm long and 4-5mm wide) have a depressed rotundate head and a light reddish brown coloration on the dorsal surface with a single, dark brown middorsal stripe and without stripes on the ventral surface. A large, muscular penis with a wide bulbar cavity, a well-developed glandular chamber with a tubular diaphragm, and the presence of a long common sperm duct and a short common ovovitelline duct are important taxonomic characters in the genital anatomy of this species. Some ecological conditions of the Sapporo locality are also described.

During the 1991 study of helminth of the South Korean chiropterans, Rhinloophus ferrumequinum korei, Myotis macrodactylus, M. mystacinus, M. formosus and Pipistrellus coreensis were obtained. Vampirolepis hidaensis SAWADA, 1967, commonly parasitic on R. ferrumequinum nippon and Miniopterus schreibersii of Japan, were recorded from R. ferrumequinum korei in an abandoned mine at Yongsan-ri, Gajo-myeon, Geochang-gun, Kyungsangnamdo. This finding represents new parasite-host record ; it is new with respect to geographical distribution.

In 1985-1986, investigations on terrestrial tardigrades were carried out on the northern slope of Mt. Fuji. As the first part of the taxonomic work on the Eutardigrada collected there, the present paper deals with the members of the two families Calohypsibiidae and Eohypsibiidae. Calohypsibius ornatus (RICHTERS, 1900), Microhypsibius japonicus sp. nov., Amphibolus weglarskac (DASTYCH, 1972) and Fujiscon diphasconiellum gen. et sp. nov. are described.

A new subspecies of Traulia ornata is described from Taiwan under the name of T. ornata chui. The new subspecies is a highland-form distinguished from T. ornata ornata, a lowland-form, by having entirely palered hind tibia except for a pale-yellow postgenicular ring. The highland-form seems not to be a direct descendant of the lowland-form. Short remarks are given on account of this.

Two new anthribid beetles belonging to the genus Peribathys are described from the Island of Borneo under the names Peribathys nagaii and P. brevicornis. Both of them are similar to P. everetti (JORDAN, 1894) from Borneo, but can be distinguished from them by characteristics of the antennae.

Two male and one female specimens of Ropalidia marginata collected on Iwo-jima, the Volcano Islands in the Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands were examined. This is the first record of social wasp from the Volcano Islands. The specimens well agrees with the original description of R. marginata sundaica VECHT which has been known to range from the Mariana Islands in the north to most parts of Indonesia and Malay Peninsula in the south. It is not certain whether this form is native to Iwo-jima or has been introduced through human activities.
