Mastigospirura cubicipitis gen. et sp. nov. (Nematoda, Cystidicolidae) is described for specimens collected from the intestine of a driftfish, Cubiceps sp. from Ambon of Indonesia. The new genus is distinguished from the closely related genera Ascarophis and Neoascarophis by having the mouth opening without lateral notches and surrounded by two lateral pseudolabia which are attached medially to the lateral edge of the mouth opening, lacking submedian labia and sublabia, and having 14 pairs of preanal papillae in the male.

Macrocyclops monticola n. sp. from Honshu and Kyushu, and Diacydops dispinosus n. sp. from Hokkaido are described. They are common cyclopoids in the mountain waters of their ranges. M. monticola shows disappearance of the outer lateral spine of leg 5 article 2, as a variation occurring frequently in most populations. D. dispinosus has an extra outer lateral spine of leg 5 article 2 without exception.

Brachycarpus biunguiculatus (LUCAS, 1849) is recorded on the basis of three specimens collected from Japanese waters ; two of them were captured from the lagoon on Kuro-shima Islet of Yaeyama Group, Ryukyu Islands and another specimen was caught in a submarine cave on Hachijo-jima Island, Izu Islands. This species is widely distributed from the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean to Indo-Pacific region, and the present specimens represent the first record of the species from Japan.

A new species of commensal pinnotherid crab of the genus Ostracotheres H. MILNE EDWARDS, 1853, is described under the name of O. tomentipes based on two females found in the mantle cavities of bivalve shells from Okinawa-jima, the Ryukyu Islands. This new species is the eighth of this genus which was revised by PREGENZER (1988).

A pagurid hermit crab, Pagurus undosus (BENEDICT, 1892), is recorded with certainty from Japan for the first time. It is readily distinguished from other western Pacific members of the genus by a characteristically sculptured appearance of the right palm.

Carabus yaconinus BATES is widely distributed in the western part of Honshu and Shikoku, but only two subspecies, namely blairi BREUNING and the nominotypical yaconinus have been discriminated. In this study, the following eight geographical races are recognized and six of which are described as new subspecies : blairi BREUNING, sotai nov., cupidicornis nov., yaconinus BATES, oki nov., maetai nov., yamaokai nov. and seto nov.

A new genus and species of the Miridae, Zhengiella scutellata, is described and illustrated, based on the specimens collected in the Ryukyus, Japan, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The new genus is similar in general appearance to certain species of Lygus HAHN or Pinalitus KELTON (sensu KERZHNER), but differs in several external diagnostic characters and genital structure. Zhengiella belongs to the tribe Mirini of the subfamily Mirinae.

Two species of the genus Austrohancockia are distributed in the Ryukyus : One is A. platynota, a well known species, though in this paper it is treated as a new subspecies, A. platynota amamiensis, and the other is a new species, A. okinawensis. The new species is different from the other congeners in having narrow pronotum with low, laterally overhanging humeral parts.

Phyllamphion larvae were obtained in the western North Pacific adjacent to the Okinawa and Taiwan Islands and in the southwestern Japanese waters. Based on close inspection of these specimens, phyllamphion larvae showing a rectangular cephalic shield are identified to be Palinurellus wieneckii (Decapoda, Synaxidae), while the larvae having a circular cephalic shield are Puerulus angulatus (Decapoda, Palinuridae). Available information concerning phyllamphion larvae known to date is compiled, with the result that these larvae belong to either genus of the Puerulus or the Palinurellus.

A new species of the hymenolepidid cestode is described under the name of Vampirolepis glischropi from East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, which was taken from chiropterans, Glischropus tyopus and Myotis muricolo. The new species is related to V. decipens, V. gertschi, V. aelleni, V. baeri, V. phyllostomi and V. promopsis in the number and length of the rostellar hook. However, it differs from them in the shape of the hook.

A new septate gregarine, Hyalospora japonica, is described from the intestine of a Japanese Thysanuran Pedetontus nipponicus. This is the first report on the genus Hyalospora from Japan. The new species is related to H. roscoviana, but it differs from the latter in the size of gamont, the shape of oocyst, the color of endoplasm of young gamont and the host.
