JOURNAL FREE ACCESSReactions of 1, 4-cyclohexadiene and 1, 3-cyclohexadiene with aqueous sulfuric acid solution were carried out under various reaction conditions.
1, 4-cyclohexadiene was stirred with 500% sulfuric acid at 70°C for five hours in a three-necked flask, and a mixture of cis-and trans-1, 4cyclohexanediols (yield 33 mol 0%) and their sulfates (8 mol 0%) were obtained. In addition, 3-cyclohexenol- (1) was found in the oily product.
When 1, 3-cyclohexadiene reacted with 60% sulfuric acid at 60°C for three hours, poly (1, 3-cyclohexadiene), which consists of five to six cyclohexene units, was obtained (yield 82 wt 0% for 1, 3-cyclohexadiene), and 2-cyclohexenol- (1) was found in the oily product.View full abstractDownload PDF (1045K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSSynthesis of 4-chlorocyclohexene from 1, 4-cyclohexadiene and hydrogen chloride was investigated. And reaction of 4-chlorocyclohexene with aqueous sulfuric acid was carried out and the products were investigated.
When hydrogen chloride was bubbled through the reaction mixture consisting of 1, 4-cyclohexadiene 6.0 g, zinc chloride 0.6 g, and glacial acetic acid 4.5 g at 20°C for seven hours, the products were 4-chlorocyclohexene (75%), dichlorocyclohexanes (21%) and 1, 4-cyclohexadiene (4%).
When 4-chlorocyclohexene reacted with 65% sulfuric acid at 60°C for four hours, the products were mainly cis- and trans-isomers of 3-and 4-chlorocyclohexanols (yield 74 mol%), accompanied by small amounts of sulfates of chlorocyclohexanols, dichlorocyclohexanes and phenylcyclohexane.
Phenylcyclohexane and dichlorocyclohexanes were the main products when the reaction was carried out at 100°C with 60% Sulfuric acid.View full abstractDownload PDF (1161K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSFrom citronellal (1) as the parent substance, citronellyl acetal (4), geranyl acetal (5) and a mixed acetal (6) of citronellol (2) and geraniol (3) were synthesized.
Alkyl vinyl ether (10), which is derived from saturated acetals (8) of (4), (5) and (6), and the respective saturated ether (11) were also synthesized. When (4), (5) and (6) were decomposed with H2SO4, H3PO4 and HCOOH, under cooling the original (1), (2), and (3) were obtained.
In a same fashion, dihydrocitronellol (7) and dihydrocitronellal (9) were obtained from (8). Dihydrocitronellol (7) was also obtained when hydro-decomposition of (4), (5), (6), and (8) was carried out.
The acetals (4), (5), (6), and (8) have a mild hydroxycitronellal-like odor, by above 200°C/1 mmHg ; conceivably these can be used as a stable perfume which has little skin irritation.View full abstractDownload PDF (606K) -
