Planing of cobalt-free tungsten carbide using a mono-crystal-diamond tool under the lubrication oil, Extreme pressure agent, Dimethyl silicon, Oleic acid, ZnDTP and Water-miscible cutting fluid are examined. All of the lubrication oils were effective to reduce the diamond tool wear. Large chipping on the diamond tool was observed under water-miscible cutting fluid. Diamond tool wear and surface roughness under ZnDTP is the smallest due to excellent lubricant property and shout out oxygen in atmosphere. The achieved surface roughness using ZnDTP was 0.022 micronRa.

Acrylic optical parts would be mainly finished by the hand polishing in the case of the small quantity or complicated shape. However, the deterioration of optical performance became problems, since the polishing marks remained due to polishing condition. Therefore, the ultraprecision cutting was applied to the acrylic cover currently finished by the polishing, which is used for the sewer pipe inspection camera. The finishing quality for this optical part was improved by the development of the new clamping jig, the newly designed tool and the proper cutting conditions.

Owing to high transparency for infrared region, Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) is used for arious infrared optical components. Crystalline ZnS micro grooves were fabricated by fly cutting with a single crystal diamond tool. The orientation is (110) plane, and the cutting direction is 27deg from <110> direction in clockwise. A smooth surface was obtained up to cutting distance of about 3.3m.

A service provider gives many dialogs to customers to support them to reach services. What dialog is the most appropriate to convince the customers? In this research, we propose a method to improve customers′ satisfaction through dialogs in service. Based on statistic, the interaction modeled as Markov chain is optimized using dynamic programming. In preliminary study, we validate our method by experiments on a case study called Prime Number problem.

Scanned meshes of engineering objects have been easily acquired by 3D laser or high energy industrial X-ray CT scanning systems, which are then widely used in product development. When utilizing the meshes in object inspection, re-design, and simulation, it is very important to use them to reconstruct 3D CAD models. Engineering objects often exhibit 3D periodicities for their functionality. Therefore, it is essential to recognize such 3D periodicities when reconstructing 3D CAD models that contain compact data representations. So far, we have proposed a method for recognizing 3D periodicity patterns based on the indexed-ICP algorithm. The method robustly extracts a pattern type, a set of periodically displaced regions and the parameters defining the periodicities, such as translational basis vectors or a rotational axis and a basis angle, from scanned meshes. In this paper, we propose a new method that can extract 3D periodicity patterns where periodical displacement among regions can be expressed by 3D generalized coordinates.

There are many studies on hardware and software experiments to control a modular robot. The modular robot consists of homogeneous or heterogeneous simple modules. A feature of it is that the modular robot behavior is obtained by an each module movement based on local communications between linked modules. This study focuses on a computer simulation obeying physics laws for a virtual modular robot. This simulation aims at achieving given tasks autonomously for it in specific circumstances. Our goal is to acquire a control system in evolution for the virtual modular robot and to discuss about model scalability.

Recently, high strength steel sheets are rapidly introduced to automotive parts and amount of springback of these parts increases extremely. It is required to prevent the amount. However, mesh based on the measured from real formed sheets after springback does not have the same topology as the one of reference geometry mesh. However, different topology disables the user to use the proposed compensation estimation method. In this study, we propose a method where the correspondences can be found between the reference mesh and the measured mesh which has the different topology from the reference one, and which has the deformation relationship with it, under the preserving property.

In this work we introduce a method named creeping contours for image segmentation into its composing parts for the purpose of extracting the boundary surfaces of these parts. Creeping contours are contours which expand following a speed function defined by the gradient and the curvature at the contours points, starting from initial contour position defined either manually or automatically. Contours in the image creep simultaneously at different speeds while assigning the label of the contours pixels by the defined creeping condition. We also demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method by segmenting 2D grayscale images, and 3D volumetric CT images of mechanical parts into multiple segments, and generating the boundary surfaces of these parts.
