This paper presents a novel method for selecting optimum measurement wavelengths in multi-wavelength interferometry. It is based on a coincidence error analysis in exact fractions solutions. By this method, three wavelengths of 470, 560, and 600 nm were selected. With these wavelengths, an extended measurement range of 8 microns was experimentally proved.

Electronic speckle pattern interferometry with high resolution power based on Fourier transform using only two speckle patterns is proposed by using the new optical system. Furthermore, the occurrence process of unresolved speckle in speckle pattern which is grabbed by the optical system is also discussed. The condition that can avoid the occurrence of unresolved speckles for the fringe analysis is proposed. In experiments, the measuring accuracy of the method is improved in the measurement of out-of-plane deformation by rotating a flat plane using the shift of the information in frequency domain. It is confirmed that the accuracy of the method is higher than 1/130 wavelength of light source and that the out-of-plane deformation with a concave phase distribution can be also measured.

Fringe phase is detectable from one-shot image in color fringe projection, since three-primary-colors intensity information can be used from an image independently. Measurement of dynamic deforming object is carried out by using this method. Vibration mode analysis is performed by the time-average method of projected monochromatic grating pattern, which is similar to holographic interferometry. However it is difficult to analyze sub-fringe by those techniques because only a vibrating fringe pattern is captured. Hue information of time-averaged color fringe is applied in this experiment to analyze the fringe phase precisely. Proposed method where the hue of projected fringe is modified by oscillation is compared with ordinary technique where the fringe intensity is modified.

Stereo robot vision system achieve stereopsis by using two cameras. To solve the correspondence problem between right and left images, we proposed a pattern matching technology and applied the technology to a stereovision system. The proposed pattern matching technology employs a liquid crystal display (LCD) and utilizes the polarization of light. We use the LCD function of controlling light penetration for our pattern matching. We use two LCDs arranged in piles. The image from each camera is displayed on one of the LCDs; the correspondence between the two images is then judged by the light intensity through the two-layer LCD. Using this two-layer LCD, correspondence between extracted objects in right and left images is roughly obtained, and the computational costs for the pattern machining can be reduced. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed technology, the stereo camera was mounted on a remote-control model car, and an experiment was conducted for autonomous mobile robot. Obstacles in front of the autonomous mobile robot obtained from the stereo camera were extracted and displayed on the two-layer LCD, and the distances to the obstacles were calculated through triangulation.

Automatic visual measuring system for bearings number and bearing area proportion on the scraped surface was developed. The linear type light and linear CCD line sensor was used to recognize the scraped surface. Therefore non-uniform illumination on the target surface were reduced. The threshold value to obtain binary image was decided correspond to bearing number and bearing area proportion. Then, Red lead and blue pest were painted in fitting work with another surface to obtain the high contrast image in manually. As a result, developed system was some advantages at high speed and high precious measuring comparison with the conventional method.

The cutting characteristics of the actively driven rotary lathe tool are investigated. The MQL external turning tests of SUS 304 and Inconel718 are carried out with some kinds of cutting fluids, in which the effect of water soluble oil on tool temperature and tool wear are mainly examined. The optimum toll rotational speed is also investigated based on both tool temperature and cutting forces.
