The National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) operates the high-sensitivity seismograph network (Hi-net) and the broadband seismograph network (F-net) of Japan. Waveform data acquired by these networks is processed in real-time, and hypocenters are estimated automatically. In order to use the waveform data, it is important to record all the time history information for the observation equipment installed at each seismic station. However, as we operate more than 800 seismic stations for over ten years, it becomes difficult to manage the huge amount of such information accumulated in time. We have therefore built a large-scale database system to manage the rigorous time history of the observation equipment for all the seismic stations. Using this database, it has been possible to provide essential data instantly to researchers. This paper describes the functions and configuration of our database system.
