We developed a preliminary version of Visual Basic program Griview3D for estimation of cubic grid data based on irregularly spaced observations and visualization of the result as equal-valued surfaces and cross sections by using VRML viewer. Values at grid points are simply calculated by fitting of observations to the linear or quadratic function by the method of weighted least square. As the estimation depends on a set of weight parameters, the program has a function to assist an appropriate choice of weight function referring to numerical indexes on goodness of fit and smoothness of the function. Using temperature logging data, we estimated preliminarily the three dimensional distribution of underground temperature in Hohi geothermal area, Kyushu, Japan. The result detected clearly high temperature plumes similar to the previous studies, which have been interpreted to arise from the upstream of hot water along the faults. Thus, the program is useful for a preliminary inspection of three dimensional distribution of physical values based on irregularly spaced data, although the interpolation and smoothing method is elementary and should be improved further.

On the chance of 24th Meeting of Geoscience Information Consortium (GIC) of EuroGeoSurvey's held in Japan, Japan Society of Geoinformatics jointly held the Symposium entitled Recent Development of International Geoinformatics with National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology on Monday May 25, 2009, at Akihabara Dai-Bldg. in Tokyo. 5 papers were presented from GIC members and Japanese gave talks 3 papers in the symposium with 45 participants. Contents of papers are reported in this article mostly devoted to national and international activities of geospatial information under the regulation laws, the web-GIS creation and dissemination, the geoscientific standards, and related technologies like as open source software.
