    Various uncertainties exist in the data from geomorphological and geological investigations. Consequently, the evolution of a site restored by using those data inevitably contains the uncertainties derived from those data. An evaluation of the uncertainties is a crucial issue for building confidence in the restoration of the site evolution. In this study, the potential source and degree of uncertainties included in the result of an estimation of uplift rate are analyzed by an application of the Evidential Support Logic (ESL), which is one of the hierarchical analysis techniques, to the research example of the Horonobe area, northern Hokkaido, Japan. The result of this study specifies the survey items which bring uncertainty to the estimation of uplift rate and quantify the degree of uncertainty in the estimation. The geoscientific data corresponding to required data quality will be efficiently acquirable, by setting up the survey items and incorporating of the quality control methodology into the system of geoscientific investigation on the basis of the results of the ESL analysis.
