This time, I have been appointed the 13th President of the International Society for Life Information Science (ISLIS). ISLIS was established in 1995 to promote scientific research on life information and establish international exchange partnerships, and to elucidate unknown phenomena in areas involving consciousness, mind and brain based on scientific demonstrations. Currently, the society has information centers in 11 countries around the world, and a large number of members belong to more than 15 countries. I graduated from Nippon Medical School in 1984 and entered the department of psychiatry at the university. Under the direction of the late professor Shunkichi Endo, I belonged to the EEG group and was mainly engaged in the studies of EEG analysis for mood disorder patients. I also deepened the exchange through EEG research with Dr. Kimiko Kawano who is now the Vice-President of ISLIS, and joined ISLIS with the late Professor Endo. At that time, Ms. Kawano was studying physiopathology by EEG analysis such as qigong, meditation, aroma, hypnosis, etc. that had not been scientifically sufficiently elucidated. We also conducted EEG research on aroma or hypnosis as an area of research in our department of psychiatry. Then I studied for about one year in psychiatry at the University of Iowa from 1999 and engaged in research on affective or cognitive disorders after stroke with Professor Robinson. After returning to Japan, I have been in the current position since 2013, after being director and associate professor at the Department of Mental Health, Nippon Medical School Chiba Hokusoh Hospital since 2003. Psychiatry is an area that deals with the human "mind". In order to understand the phenomena of the mind, it is also necessary to deepen the understanding of the "brain" function. At the same time, the holistic approach is emphasized, such as the psycho-social background, including their values and lifestyle. When I was appointed the chairman of ISLIS, I was asked by Dr. Mikio Yamamoto, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ISLIS, to set up a medical division. There are many leading experts in various fields in ISLIS, and they are conducting research using various methods. In order to elucidate unknown phenomena, it is necessary to establish high-quality research design by bringing together the wisdom of both the medical field and various scientific fields. By accumulating research results one by one, I would like to do my best to create an environment that can perform empirical research with a higher level of evidence than ever before. I sincerely ask for the understanding and cooperation of all the member of ISLIS.

Depression continues to increase at a global scale, and utmost importance has been placed on measures to combat this disease. In Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has launched priority measures as part of five projects for five diseases, with mental diseases such as depression being newly added to the four diseases so far. Although genetic developmental factors, psychosocial factors, organic (physical) factors, etc. are important as onset factors of depression, neurobiological factors occurring in the brain have recently been elucidated in quick succession. In addition to the conventional monoamine hypothesis, recent studies have offered a hypothesis related to neurotoxicity in the hippocampus owing to a decrease in BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), as well as observations on the hypofunction of the DLPFC (dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex) and hyperactivity in both the amygdala and subgenual cingulate cortex (Cg25). Depression needs to be understood as a "brain disease" rather than a "mental disease". In recent years, many new diagnostic methods and therapeutic endeavors have been made based on the pathophysiology of the brain. Among them, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a new diagnostic technology originating in Japan that is simple and non-invasive, and is useful for differentiating between depression and bipolar disorder. Our study has also revealed that blood flow shows a significant increase in the left dorsolateral prefrontal area as depression is ameliorated, which is considered to be useful for judging the effect of treatment. Regarding methods of physical therapy outside of drug therapy, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), magnetic seizure therapy (MST), deep brain stimulation (DBS), and other types of therapy are performed overseas as stimulation therapy to correct functional changes in the brain. In Japan, rTMS has been covered by insurance since June 2019, and it is a boon that treatment options have increased.

The International Society of Life Information Science (ISLIS) is aiming at celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Founding of ISLIS by holding the 50th Life Information Science Symposium and publishing the 50th issue of the journal, in 2020. ISLIS and its related organization the International Research Institute (IRI) began a big progression in 2019. IRI has expanded its space for research and will found the “Human Potential Science Institute” which it hopes to nurture into a large-scale organization in the future. The 24 years of progress for the ISLIS and the Promotion of “Human Potential Science” since the society’s foundation in 1995 are reviewed here. ISLIS has sought and continues to seek the realization of the paradigm shift from material-oriented science and technology to a new paradigm including the consciousness, spirit and mind through research based on empirical and positive scientific methodologies, and consequently, to promote the development of health, social welfare, and education as well as social and personal peace of mind, and to contribute to the making of a peaceful world, at one with nature. Since the foundation of ISLIS, Life Information Science Symposia have been held 48 times and issues of the Journal of International Society of Life Information Science (Journal of ISLIS), totaling more than 6,000 pages of research papers and reports, have been published regularly twice a year. ISLIS held the “Human Potential Science International Forum” in Chiba, Japan in 2002, the “International Conference on Mind Body Science” in Seoul, Korea in 2004 and the “7th Psi Meeting” in August 2011 co-sponsored by ISLIS and the Facludades Integradas Espirita (Curitiba, Brazil). ISLIS published the book Human Potential Science in 2004. Existences of many anomalous phenomena have been proved scientifically. However, principles of all the world’s anomalous phenomena have not been clarified yet. More scientific studies about them are needed. The 48th Symposium is being held on August 23-26, 2019 in a camp format at Inawashiro-machi, Yama-gun, Fukushima-ken, Japan which is the home town of the famous Dr. Hideyo Noguchi,. The 49th Symposium will be held on March 14-15, 2020 at Toho University, Omori, Otaku, Tokyo, Japan. ISLIS has a worldwide presence with 11 International Information Centers and about 190 members in 15 countries.

Unlike Western medicine, which targets diseases directly, oriental medicine focuses on comprehensive medical care aimed toward providing “comprehensive treatment to every individual who is burdened with disease while considering the person’s psychological and social background.” Kampo, a medical science developed independently in Japan that is similar to Chinese traditional medicine, is also, unmistakably, a form of comprehensive medical care based on the same theoretical ideas. Using these concepts as a basis of the paradigm of comprehensive medical care in the field of dentistry, in 1983, the Japan Dental Society of Oriental Medicine was established mainly by dentists in private practice and has grown into what it is today. Using oriental medicine as the basis, an integrated approach to medical care that combines alternative medicine is promoted. However, at present, there are difficulties with its implementation and reach because of issues related to the national health insurance system and prejudice arising from medical education that places importance on Western medicine. In dental practice, separate individuals, those are dentists and patients, are required to bring their faces close to each other and a mechanical process of treatment such as “scraping”, “stabbing” and “cutting” is performed. It is likely to cause fear and anxiety in patients. For this distinctive feature of dental practice, it is essential to create an “environment,” where there is a “good dentist–patient relationship.” The introduction of a number of alternative medicines, starting with oriental medicine, to clinical practice is indispensable to dental care in terms of establishing a state of physical and mental well-being, creating an “environment” for good medical care, and enabling pain management through analgesic activity and general management through homeostasis.

There is a lot of misunderstanding about concept of the unconsciousness and the therapeutic action in psychoanalysis. On the other hand, it is not easy to understand them. Therefor I would like to ascertain some points on the assumption that we will discuss about the contemporary significance of psychoanalysis. That is to say, I will take about the positioning of psychoanalysis which Sigmund Freud had established in the psychotherapy history, historical background and various criticism of psychoanalysis. For example, the trend of psychoanalytic schools has been influenced by the current of recent EBM (evidence-based medicine). The efficacy of short-term psychotherapy has been shown demonstratively. On the other hand, such the efficacy of long-term psychotherapy as psychoanalysis beginning to be shown recently. Someone are impatient to such this circumstance. On the other hand, others believe that there is something significant which cannot catch with the evaluation in psychoanalysis. In addition, another one would rather think that the essentials of psychoanalysis exists there. In the first place, I am incompetent to range extensively over the literature, in perspective, comprehensively and finally organize them. I take up some point at issue by comparing my familiar clinical experiences with material as just one clinician. To develop arguments, I would like to interlace a little spreading argument while referring to some interdisciplinary knowledge. Above all, I would like to emphasize that the argument over the therapeutic effect among other things while standing on some trends related to the theme concerning clinical ethics.

Modern medicine, or medicine as we know it, made rapid progress in identifying, preventing and treating illnesses. Prescription medicines and advances in medical treatment have helped people avoid disability caused by diseases, lowered overall treatment costs, and have lowered death rates for heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other deadly diseases for several decades. Meanwhile, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) provides natural and effective protection for those who suffer from chronic illness. CAM is defined as a category of medicine that includes a variety of treatment approaches that fall outside the realm of conventional medicine, including Ayurvedic medicine, Sino-Japanese traditional medicine, herbal medicine, qigong therapy, vibration therapy, etc. There is a general scientific consensus that CAM lacks the requisite scientific validation, and their effectiveness is either unproved or disproved. Many of the claims regarding the efficacy of CAM are controversial, since research on them is frequently of low quality and methodologically flawed. However, there are some studies assessing the effect of chronic conditions of various diseases on use of CAM. CAM may also contribute to improved health care utilization and patient outcomes. Although CAM has different advantages and disadvantages from those of modern medicine, it should be effective in finding appropriate methods using the framework of evidence-based medicine (EBM). For example, studies in which a conventional treatment is supplemented with a CAM technique would be valid if compared to the same conventional treatment supplemented with a placebo. As clinical practice guidelines and life-style recommendations for multimorbid patients continue to be developed to include CAM, future research on these and other comorbidities may contribute to improved health care utilization and patient outcomes.

Since October 2007, we have been conducting scientific research on the "pyramid power" at the International Research Institute (IRI). In order to detect the "pyramid power", we conducted a strict experiment to clarify the presence or absence of an influence (non-contact effect) on the biosensors. For the experiment, (1) the pyramidal structure (PS) with a size of about 1/122 of the Giza Great Pyramid was made. (2) Cut sections of cucumber fruit were used as the biosensors. The biosensors were placed for 30 minutes at the PS apex and at the calibration control point 8 m away from the PS. (3) The concentration of gas released from the biosensors after they had been in place for 30 min was measured, and the presence or absence of the non-contact effect on the biosensors at the PS apex was analyzed. For the preparation of the biosensors, 4 cucumbers were required in one experiment, and so over 11,000 cucumbers have been used (we have obtained over 5,500 data on the non-contact effect) so far. In the study using the PS, two kinds of experiment, designated (a) and (b) and having different experimental conditions were performed. In (a), the PS was used and the experiment was conducted under the "human (the test subject) related" conditions. In (b), the PS was again used and the experiment was conducted under the "human (the test subject) not related" conditions. Experiment type (a) was further classified into two other types of experiment according to the existence of two force types originating from a human. That is, it was an experiment in which the PS and (a1) "a human unconsciousness" were related and in which the PS and (a2) "a human who meditated in the PS" were related. Experiment type (b) was an experiment conducted under the conditions in which the test subject did not enter the PS for at least 20 days and human influence was excluded. As a result of the analysis, the presence of the "pyramid power" could be demonstrated with high statistical accuracy from all experimental results of (a1), (a2) and (b). However, different results were obtained depending on the experimental conditions. From (a1) results, we concluded that the non-contact effect corresponding to the unconscious change from the sleep state to the awake state of a human (the test subject) separated by 6 km or more was detected, and the long-distance non-contact effect was discovered. From (a2) results, after the meditation, we concluded the non-contact effect was detected for more than ten days, and the short-distance non-contact effect accompanied by the delay was discovered. From (b) results, we concluded the non-contact effect due to the potential power of the PS was detected, the potential power changed with the season, and it was discovered that the non-contact effect was large in summer and small in winter.

In evidence-based Western medicine, the core of medical care has been the elimination of disease symptoms, and its research has focused not only on the recovery process but only on the onset process and the symptom theory. Even if you search for medical articles, there are surprisingly few things that deal with the recovery process of the disease. On the other hand, there is also the fact that in ancient Greek times Hippocrates emphasized the process of disease recovery and already focused on the existence of natural healing power. Hippocrates stressed the mechanism of recovery from disease and thought about what medical care should be. It was regarded as the essence of medical care to enhance natural healing power and disease resistance. Although the idea of this Hippocrates has been re-evaluated by some experts as neo-Hippocratism, it is currently regarded as heresy in modern medicine, which is based on advanced medical treatment. On the day of the symposium, how to use the natural healing power that Hippocrates focused on in the distant times for recovery from diseases, also from the viewpoint of holistic medical practice practiced by the performers, recovery theory of self-esteem I planed is to develop my theory including it.

Positive psychology is a new field of psychology, which focuses on positive aspects of human functioning. While the purpose of traditional psychology, which is often called "medical model" is to focus on and cure the negative aspects such as anxiety, sadness, and depression, the aim of positive psychology is to identify and develop human strengths and positivity to achieve flourishing. This lecture will introduces the fundamental theory of positive psychology.

Individual Psychology is the psychology to help people to be healthy and to be supportive and cooperative to others in a clinical setting. It consists of the following basic assumptions, such as "Holism", "Teleology", "Fictionalism", "Social embeddedness", and "Creativity". We are separate from the determinists and the schools that are trying to understand humans by extending animal experimentation. We also try to understand a human as a human being and with a unique spirit. They are not a machine or an animal. The theory is not a hypothesis-verifying natural scientific theory, but a hypothetical system. It is not the pursuit of so-called truth, but only one way of interpretation. In order to live healthy, especially in order to live psychologically healthy, the relationship with others must be good and in order to maintain good relationships with others, we must have interested in others interests and we must decide to contribute to others. Such sense of interest and contribution to others is called "Social Interest" and this concept is the important philosophy of Individual Psychology. Also, because of this philosophy, Individual Psychology is not science itself. The techniques of Individual Psychology include "goal alignment", "interpretation and guessing", "identify a problem", "providing alternatives", "encouragement", and "lifestyle assessment". However, many Adlerian therapists consider psychotherapy techniques to be a shared property beyond the schools and they are eclectic. It is possible and not uncommon to do lifestyle assessment with classical Individual Psychology, or to adopt various treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy and Milton Erickson's family therapy in the context of theory and philosophy of Individual Psychology. Further more, Adlerian psychodrama incorporating traditional Japanese martial art techniques are introduced recent year. In this symposium, I would like to reexamine "natural healing power" and "the possibility of natural healing power" in the context of Individual Psychology.

Since starting her activity as an aromatherapist since 1996, she has been aiming to practice holistic living in connection with the natural world and to return it to others as well. However, the earthquake of March 11, 2011 and the subsequent nuclear accident caused a loss of confidence in the connection to nature and felt the need to reinvestigate what to live as a guide. She learned spirituality and received healing training. The law there is clear: "Every disease is the result of the soul's energy being suppressed". In order to activate natural healing power, it is necessary to solve the oppression of the soul, and a paradigm shift from materialistic values is also essential. For that purpose, one of the important points is to have reverence for the power that transcends the natural world, feels and is there. It broadens the worldview and nurture the sense that oneself and others are present as the existence of the soul, which can be the basis for activating the natural healing power.

In the ISLIS 47th Symposium on Life Information Science (March 2019), the author presented his insights on the change of Qi sense and body coordination during performances before and after health nourishing Qigong that requires externally-regulated respiration. The previous study signalled that a Qigong performance that requires regulatory respiration helps a performer improve body coordination in the subsequent Qigong exercise. In this study, the author asked a practitioner with a 40-year experience in Qigong to perform in the same procedure as the author did in previous studies, and discussed whether externally-regulated respiration would have a positive effect on the performance of the experienced practitioner. In the experiment, the experienced practitioner was asked to perform a Yi Jin Xing Qi Fa, one of health nourishing Qigong, before and after another health nourishing Qigong (Taiji Qigong Shiba Shi) that requires regulatory respiration. To investigate the degree of coupling between body parts, cross recurrence quantification analysis (CRQA) was used. Mood and flow experience of the practitioner after Taiji Qigong Shiba Shi performance were assessed with TDMS-ST and FSS. TDMS-ST assessment indicated that the mood became more comfortable and active after Taiji Qigong Shiba Shi performance that requires externally-regulated respiration. FSS result suggested that the flow state improved after Taiji Qigong Shiba Shi. Though the degree of wrist coordination during the performance of Yi Jin Xing Qi Fa may have varied between pivot legs, it was found that the performance of the practitioner was very robust in body coupling compared to the performance of a beginner. This study intends to discuss the essence of Yi Jin Xing Qi Fa, a unity of mood (awareness), flow state (Qi sense) and body movements (wrist coordination; physical power).

From several months ago, sleep attack began to appear with shivering immediately after meals. Core body temperature was measured for the purpose of cause search, and the relationship with the appearance time of sleep attack or sleepiness were investigated. As a result, the appearance of sleep attack or sleepiness are associated with a decrease in core body temperature, no sleepiness is observed when the lowest temperature during the day is 36.5 degrees or more, and the sleepiness itself appears in the temperature decrease phase below 36.5 degrees. Although the cause of this drop in core body temperature was not clear, it was clear that the drop in core body temperature might be involved in some type of the sleep attack or sleepiness.

We have conducted scientifically rigorous experiments using biosensors to elucidate the unexplained functions of a pyramidal structure (PS). From them we have demonstrated the existence of a so-called "pyramid power" which was often recognized as having no scientific basis. We reached two conclusions from the work. (1) The PS converted the unconsciousness of a human (the test subject) more than 6 km away to energy detectable by the biosensors (1% significance). (2) The PS accumulated the influence that a human (the test subject) had when meditating within the PS. Then the PS converted the influence into the energy detectable by the biosensors (10-3% significance). These two conclusions showed that the functions of the PS were detected when "the PS and a human were related". In this lecture, we will talk about the potential power of the PS under the condition that "the PS and a human were not related". (1) The presence of the potential power of the PS was demonstrated with 1% significance. (2) The potential power of the PS changed in value between summer and winter, and it was clear that the non-contact effect on the biosensors was larger in summer and smaller in winter. (3) The potential power of the PS affected only the biosensors placed at the PS apex, and did not affect the biosensors placed at the calibration control point 8 m away from the PS.

Ankyloglossia with Deviation of the Epiglottis and Larynx (ADEL) is a condition in which the tongue, epiglottis and larynx are displaced upward and forward. This condition occurs independent of the existence or absence of the frenum linguae. This condition not only increases the resistance of the upper airflow, it also inhibits respiration. The Correction of the glosso-larynx (CGL) procedure cuts several bundles of genioglossas muscle from the underside of the tongue. As a result of the procedure, the tongue, epiglottis and larynx move backward and downward. In addition, the epiglottis and larynx stand up straight with the epipharynx, or post-nasal cavity, lined up in the sagittal image. Symptoms observed in babies – such as crying hard, crying at night, bending backwards, and always wanting to be in someone's arms – are no longer observed after the CGL procedure. The parents of previously afflicted babies were very pleased with the improvements, and noted a decrease in care required, following the CGL procedure. In this congress we report the result of computer voice analysis of the sound of babies' cries. Daily life record tables, a medical questionnaire, and a wristwatch type ActiGraph monitor were used to investigate changes in sleep habits and night crying in infants after CGL.

Recent studies have revealed that oral health and general health are closely connected. The rapid spread of personal information-technology gadgets, such as personal computers (PCs) or smartphones, is becoming a severe social concern because of the ill effects of the electromagnetic waves exposed to the human body. [Case Report] Subject: A woman in her 40s. Chief complaint: Sensitivity to electromagnetic waves and fatigue and stomach pain from the daily use of a PC, smartphone, or other household appliance. Investigation: We detected the tooth material that caused electromagnetic energy accumulation using Bi-Digital O-Ring Test. Treatment and progress: The subject showed a negative reaction to the electromagnetic waves from a smartphone, but after removing the inlay, the reaction was positive and she reported significant relief from the discomfort experienced during the use of electronic equipment or household appliances. The result suggests that metal inlays used for dental treatment accumulate electromagnetic energy, and their removal should be effective in treating electromagnetic hypersensitivity.

Hypnotherapy is not well known in psychiatric medicine, and there are very few psychiatrists who can use hypnosis, but approaches using impressions and images such as placebo, mindfulness, breathing techniques and relaxation are used in various situations. Hypnosis is a state in which consciousness is released internally and the therapist's words and the person's image can penetrate deeply into the subconscious. It has often been reported in patients' narratives that in daily life a single person's single word has had a huge impact. Hypnotherapy can be used to create such a situation intentionally and to practice positive implications such as forgiveness and liberation. The practice of hypnosis induction in general clinical practice is limited temporally, spatially, and psychologically, but in dialogue, it is not necessary to induce a state by detecting and using the moment when the therapist's word deeply enters as a suggestion. Implied therapy is possible. Modern psychopsychiatric therapy is performed on the basis of "here and now". However, clinicians will have the experience that the involvement is limited to "here and now" as opposed to being a deep-seated conflict. Hypnotherapy is a revolutionary treatment that can approach not only the present but also the past and future conflicts directly. The presentation will give some example applications such as an end-stage cancer patient who refuses to be discharged and leave the hospital, a young woman with panic disorder, and a middle-aged man who has aphasia.

In our human life, not only the body as a material exists, there are also the senses and the energies which cannot be seen. The natural healing power may be one of these energies. I improved my constitution by activation of this natural healing power without depending on medicines and doctors. The practical conditions are reported here for such improvement. I was astigmatism and nearsightedness in 27 years old, and eyesight was less than 0.1, but I took off my glasses to activate my natural healing power. I get back in about 0.5 then 56 years old, daily life, without glasses, at the time of driving, use of glasses. After that, I concerned business of the subtle energy and began to use the subtle energy equipment. When I was 61 years old, I acquired a driver's license without glasses. After that I started from lumbago and a change in a body was generating arthritis one after another, but I got over those by improvement of eating habits and the environment. It's said that a gene is changed by a recent scientific announcement, but indeed my experience is the realization.

We live our daily life emitting "life energy" from our bodies as do all other animals. Life energy is emitted from our five fingers of both hands. We can use our ten fingers freely using the "motor functions" of our cerebrum. However, our fingers also have another kind of function. It is a "healing function" based on our brain stem. For the healing function, our fingers have two abilities: one of them is to emit life energy and the other is to feel invisible life energy emitted from other humans and animals. A few persons know about the possibilities of this "healing function". The fingers are the most important factor in the theory and practice of kiryo (a kind of ki therapy). Effects of healing functions of five fingers are to recover injuries and diseases without physical touches and to prevent diseases. In the present seminar, I will explain details of the healing function of the five fingers of each hand.
