In recent years, the number of complaints about odor from livestock farming have counted 1500 to 1700 per year in the official reports. Though the number of farms have decreased, the average livestock number per farm have increased and legal control on odor have been intensified, and consequently the rate of farms which cause complaints have been gradually rising. On the other hand, preparation or repair of waste treatment facilities and improvement of waste management have been promoted, based on the law, and this seems to dissolve odor problem in many cases. In addition, countermeasure technologies have been developed, and various support system, including supply of information or advice to dissolve the problem, have been prepared.
