Two yeast strains weve mix-cultured in synthetic medium.
BS 112 R formed red colonies and BS 112P formed pink ones, with TTC method.
The relations among the cell numbers, culture time and the ratio of contamination were expressed as the following equations.
Y=
KXk(1)
D=1/1+
AeBt(2)
Where
X =cell numbers of BS 112 R (1/ml)
Y =cell numbers of BS 112P (1/ml)
D =ratio of contamination (%)
t =culture time (hr or day)
k, K, A and
B=constants
A means theratio of inoculation of the two strains, and
B is the difference of specific growth rate between them.
From the results
K, k, A and
B were 0. 8574, 1. 0803, 1.014 and-0.256 respectively.
It was found that the specific growth rates of both strains grown in mixed culture were the same as those cultured individually.
