In the previous paper, the authors recognized that
Lactobacillus heterohiochii and
L. homohiochii required yeast extract for the growth in theimproved Tamura's media containing high concentration of ethanol. In this paper, some effective factors for growth of
L. heterohiochii No.59. contained in the yeast extract were investigated.
1) The growth promoting effect was lost by heating the yeast extract for 2 hr., at 120°C, and at below pH 3. 0 or over pH 10. 0.
2) The effective factors were dialyzable, and were not extracted with ether.
3) The effective factors weve adsorbed on activated carbon and a strongly acidic cation exchangeresin.
4) The yeast extract was dissolved in 70% ethanol at pH 3. O. The soluble fraction had the. growth promating effect, but the insoluble fraction had not. The incineration of the yeast extract lost its effect.
5) The ethanol soluble fraction was subjected to a column chromatography on Dowex 50 W-X 164eluting with 0.5 N-NH4OH.
The eluate was fractionated by Sephadex G-25 and fractions 20-37 was found to be effective for its: growth promotion.
6) It was presamed that its growth promoting factors in the yeast extract consisted of some pe_ptides.
