Seventeen strains of the white spored
Aspergilli were studied taxonomically and the results were given in Table 101. Two of 3 strains of
A. candidus showed such common mycological characteristics as smooth walled conidiophores, cobwebbed appearances of conidial heads illustrated in Fig. 50, small and smooth condidia, and non-production of kojic acid, which were also of the Black
Aspergilli excluding the black conidia and large production of acid, while 1 strain seemed to be rather similar to
A. flavus.
All of the koji molds belonging to
A. oryzae and
A. luchuensis were proved to be quite different from
A. candidus. Two strains with echinulate conidia which were obtained as colorless mutants from
A. parasiticus showed the same characteristics as those of A. parasiticus Speare.
