The purpose of this study was to clarify parents’ influence on the consciousness and behavior of people in their twenties relating to mottainai in daily lives. The results were as follows: 1) The degree of the parents’ consciousness was relatively higher than that of the young people. 2) The number of items that male parents and sons considered as mottainai was smaller than those considered by females. Moreover the level of behavior of male parents was far lower than their consciousness. 3) Although female parents generally educated their children more than male parents, the latter taught their sons about repairing items more than female parents. 4) If the parents displayed a high level of behavior, the sons and daughters did the same, and vice versa. 5) The behavior of the parents and the upbringing by parents affected the behavior of their sons and daughters. The effect of female parents’ behavior on their daughters was strong, and the effect of male parents’ upbringing and that of parents’ behavior on their sons were significant. 6) Improvement in saving energy and resources would depend on sons’ and male parents’ behavior relating to mottainai in daily lives.

In TV cooking programs featuring Japanese food, captions and tickers are often displayed on the TV screen during and at the end of cooking. The present survey examined differences in the readability of tickers and their effect on the impression of the food’s deliciousness among eight types of screen using different characters and background colors and fonts. The survey, involving 27 female students, used the SD method. Five factors were extracted from a factor analysis: deliciousness, readability, pleasure, relaxation, and the weak impact of characters. When differences in the brightness(Y value) of characters and background were similar between two screens, the readability of tickers with a larger saturation(excitation purity) difference was higher. When differences in the brightness and saturation of characters and background were not similar between two screens, the readability was higher in tickers with both larger brightness and saturation differences. The effect of making food appear to be appetizing was high when the kaisho style was used, and low when multiple colors including red purple and yellow green were employed.

The objective of this paper is to establish an index indicating comfortable seating cushion. The following materials were used in subjective experiments and body pressure distribution measurements: 18 kinds of cushion materials made up of combinations of multiple layers of Urethane foam of different stiffnesses. Sixteen male and female subjects participated in the experiments and evaluated the cushions using 11 kinds of evaluation items by the SD method. In measuring body pressure distribution, measurement was set to every 20mm Hg, The entire area, maximum pressure and average pressure of each cushion were measured. Body pressure distributions were noted for each zone of the cushion material. There were found to be strong correlations between the body pressure distribution and seven (7) of the 11 types of subjective evaluation. A multiple regression equation to estimate the sensation of seating comfort for the cushion was derived from the whole area, maximum pressure, average pressure and each zone.

An increasing number of cases of heat stroke have been reported due to the extreme hot weather especially among elderly people. A large number of cases of heat stroke while staying indoor have been also reported. In addition, particularly elderly people tend to have physically disadvantage compared with young people due to aging. In order to understand the thermal responses for environmental condition changes, the experiments were conducted for 40 minutes including 10 minutes rest before and and after 20 minutes walking exercise at 55 m/min and 30 m/min in summer indoor. Under those experimental conditions, there are some individual variations among especially elderly people. The metabolism of the elderly group was higher than that of the younger group in the same exercise intensity. There is no significant difference in temporal changes of the mean skin temperature and tympanic temperature among elderly people and young people. Also, there is no significant difference in thermal preference and thermal sensitivity among them. In this way, the clear differences in physiological and thermal sensation response among young and elderly people were not seen in the range of metabolism change by daily activity in indoor, but but elderly people tend to o be subject to to the thermal load.

This paper explores people’s arousal level influenced by monochromatic light exposure during Morning and its correlation with their different behavioral characteristics. The subjects were exposed to 638nm, 523nm and 465nm monochromatic LED bulb lighting, with irradiances of 73.4μW/cm², 74.2μW/cm², and 76.9μW/cm², respectively. The experiment measured the subjects’ alpha wave ratio, time estimate, KSS(Kwansei-gakuin Sleepiness Scale). MEQ (Morningness eveningness Questionnaire) was conducted to assess the subjects’ morningness-eveningness preference. The methods of ANOVA(analysis of variance) and multiple comparison were employed. Moreover, in order to investigate the correlation between the influence of monochromatic light exposure on people’s arousal level and their morningness-eveningness preference-a significant individual behavioral characteristic, a correlation analysis between the horizontal axis being MEQ scoring and vertical axis being the varying physiology measurements has been made under different lighting conditions. It can be found that during and after the monochromatic light exposure, the alpha wave ratio at Cz under 465nm lighting was significantly higher than that under 638nm lighting at 10:30 and 12:05. And, the KSS scoring under 465nm lighting was significantly higher than that under 638nm lighting at 10:30 and 12:05. Moreover, the time estimate of 180s under 638nm lighting was significantly shorter than that under 465nm at 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00. Meanwhile, under the 465nm lighting, the alpha wave ratio at Cz showed significant negative correlation with MEQ scoring. The results show that the arousal level of the subjects exposed to 465nm lighting was lower. Meanwhile, the evening type subjects showed lower arousal level than the medium type when the arousal level of both types dropped. Thus, people with different morning-evening preferences had different circadian rhythm of Melanopsin’s spectral sensitivity.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the consciousness and behavior of teens relating to mottainai in their daily lives. The results were as follows: 1) The degrees of consciousness and behavior of teens were high, but those of females were much higher than those of males. 2) It is important to raise the level of behavior of teens, as it is lower in comparison to their consciousness levels. 3) Lessons given in school on global environment related to consciousness, whereas practical lessons on ways of life related to behavior. 4) The behavior of teens were affected by both the behavior of their parents and the lessons given in school. 5) Parents may also learn indirectly from the lessons given to their children in school. 6) It was considered that the improvement in behavior of teens depended on the behavior of their parents and the practical lessons learned in school.
