Due to the mitigation of the standards for the installation of nursery facilities in recent years, there’re many complex nursery facilities that are located in commercial buildings in urban areas. There is a possibility to have difficulty in maintaining the indoor air quality, because these facilities have restrictions on window opening due to urban issues such as security, noise, etc. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey of nursery facilities in Yokohama to clarify the actual state of ventilation behavior using window, evaluations of indoor/outdoor environment and the influence of architectural characteristics of nursery facilities on the behavior. As a result, nursery teachers in many facilities were entrusted with ventilation behavior, but had little knowledge of ventilation equipment. In addition, the behavior of opening windows was found to differ in the time of day and the season. In addition, it was clarified that the facility type, which was especially found in urban areas, affects the evaluation of indoor/outdoor environment by nursery teachers and their ventilation behavior using windows. It is considered that a management system of indoor air quality considering the architectural characteristics will be necessary for nursery facilities in urban areas in the future.
