    The adenoameloblastoma, which is a unique enamel epithelial tumor both in terms of tissue origin and histopathology, presents very different clinical findings from those of an ordinary enamel epithelial tumor. Its incidence is rather infrequent. The present report deals with one case of it which recently came in the experience of the author.

    The proliferation of inflammatory granulations can be considered as a functional expression of the mesenchyme in the presence of an inflammation. The author thinks a chemical agent promoting this mechanism to be a synenergic system of carnosine and corticoide.
    For an effective vital defense, it requires not only corticoide alone, but there must be also some kind of protective response inducing substances (PRIS). Further, the author touches on an anti-infectious and anti-allergic action of carnosine.

    4-Hydroxy-3-Aminobutyric acid (GOBAB) is a substance which absorbs edema of inflamed lesion and hastens repair of granulomatous tissues thereof On this proven pharmacological basis, the authors conducted clinical trials with the compound to determine whether it might be efficacious in reducing the severity of decubitus in a series of ten patients. The results obtained may be summarized as follows :
    1) Daily topical application of GOBAB to the wound surface by spraying in a doss of 0.3 to 0.5 gm q.d. brought about healing with cicatrication in two to three weeks of dosing in patients with relatively recently established decubital lesions.
    2) In patients with lesions of long standing the drug was found to resolve unfavorable granulomatous growth of the inflamed tissues, with consequent cleansing of the wound surface. The drug also was found to induce quicker normal granulation of the lesion.
    The medication of GOBAB produced adequate relief of decubital pain in both groups. The duration of medication required for healing with cicatrication, though varying with the degree of tissues destruction, ranged from ten to eighteen weeks.
  • Part 11. Preparatory Experiments on Water-settable Phosphate Cement and Properties of Water-settable Primary Calcium Phosphate

    From the results of the experiments it was made clear that the heat dehydration temperature at which the compressive strength became highest was around 230°C in the inner part of the test material, that is, the temperature at which primary calcium phosphate was about to be translated into acid calcium pyrophosphate (CaH2P2O7), as presumed from the fact that the atmosphere temperature in the furnace at this very time was 250°C.
    From reaffirmation of this point, the differential thermal analysis of primary calcium phosphate was performed. The results are given in Fig. 2. Graph A shows the heating temperature curve (°C), graph B, the endothermic curve (μV) and graph C, the heating loss curve (mg). From these results it can be presumed that the above assumption was right. Again, when the temperature rises more than 230°C, the compressive strength remarkably decreases, and at the same time the setting velocity also lowers remarkably. These phenomena are presumably due to the translation of acid pyrophsphate into pyrophosphate.
    As stated above, the compressive strength of the water-settable cement is much effected by the conditions of heat dehydration, and the compressive strength of this trial product, at its maximum, can be favorably compared with that of the dental zinc phosphate cement which has hitherto been widely used. Therefore, the authors will further report on the properties of this kind of cement.
  • Part II. Infrared Rays Absorption Spectum

    In the present part, the authors in order to capture the process of the condensation reaction of polysulfide brought about by various oxidizing agents, repeatedly measured the absorption of -SH, the terminal groups of polysulfide at regular intervals, using infrared rays absorption spectrum, and recorded the series of spectrum.
    The process of the condensation reaction is almost in proportion to the decrease of the intensity of absorption of -SH. So the approximate value of the degree of reaction was determined and the degree of poly-codenesation was calculated. As the result it was made clear that when 4 % of PbO2 and the mixed oxidizing agent (MnO2 and PbO2) were severally used, the degrees of condensation in both cases were only 3-6 at 20°C and 35°C. But when 4 % KMnO4 was used, it reached 17 at 35°C after 40minutes, showing a remarkably strong condensation efficiency of KMnO4, as compared with the other two oxidizing agents. This result agrees well with that of the examination viewed from viscosity.
    In conclusion, the molecular weight of the product rubber having KMnO4 as oxidizing agent, used for the purpose of examination on dynamic properties of polysulfide rubber in Part 9 [6] and Part 10 [7], is more than 70, 000 when calculated from the degree of poly-condensation, which can be presumed to be high enough to make molecules 'twisted'.
