The Climate Index (CI) defined by T. C. Scheffer (1971) was applied to Toyama prefecture to get information on the regional degradation possibility of wooden house. Climate Indices of twenty-four AMeDAS weather stations in the climatic province Fq
2 (FUKUI, 1933) were calculated using data from 1980 to 1984. A joint relationship of CI to several geographic/orographic factors was analyzed by multiple regression analysis. A CI mesh-map was drawn with aid of the regression equation formula. Since in this region, wooden houses were constructed rather high ratio (76%, 1979), we searched relationship between CI and service life, snow damage occurrence and treatment ratio against termites of houses.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) CI of one site could be estimated from seven geographic/orographic factors in 1km
2-mesh through a multiple regression equation formula.
2) From the CI mesh-map on Toyama pref., it seems likely that higher CI areas populate more on urban city and bottom skirts of mountains. The mean of CI-values in the prefecture was 78.0, which was comparable to those of middle-south Kyushu district.
3) On relationship between CI and service life of houses with respect to administrative district, restrict to urban city plots, a linear regression became significant (r=-0.689, n=9) and the slope was -3.96 year/index. The snow damage occurrence to residence in 1981, when heavy snowfall was occured, affected by a direct destruction factor snow depth. In this case, CI was not significant.
The relationship between CI and treatment ratio against termites was significant (r=0.522, n=16).
