Durability of some fast-growing hardwoods was investigated by field stake tests at Asuka field test site in Nara prefecture. The installed woods were Paraserianthes falcata, Gmelina arborea L., Eucalyptus deglupta Bl., Eucalyptus obliqua L'Herit. and Eucalyptus delegatensis. The stakes sized 30×30×600 (L) mm were set in the ground in an upright position with about half of their length. On the basis of inspection of biodegradation at ground line, both sapwood and heart-wood of Paraserianthes falcata were classified into "perishable", those of Gmelina arborea L. were "durable", and heartwood of Eucalyptus deglupta Bl., Eucalyptus obliqua L'Herit. and Eucalyptus delegatensis were "non -durable".
