The weatherablity of the composite woods with acryl-high-polymer were evaluated by the retention of gloss after exposed by accelerated weathering test machine.
The results obtained were as follows;
1) In the non-crosslinked system, the retention of gloss for the copolymer film on the glass plate decreased linearly with the increase of the content of 2-HEMA in copolymer. However, the maximum values for the retention of gloss on the surface of the composites was given in the region of 10-20% for 2-HEMA in the copolymer.
2) In the crosslinked system, the retention of gloss on the surface of the composite increased rapidly near the degree of crosslinking exceeded NCO/OH=0.5 and the retention of gloss was held constant when the ratio of NCO/OH was more than 1.0.
3) Both of the crosslinked density and the interaction between wood and copolymer for the compo sites were related to the retention of gloss.
4) The retention of gloss for the composites was affected significantly by the dimentional stability. At present, it is difficult to give high durability of the composites forr a fairly long period only by the treatment of the wood. Because, in all of our experimental case, the maximum retention of gloss decreased to 60% by 600 hours weathering test.
