The transient voltage induced for starting a fluorescent lamp depends upon the characteristics of the starter and choke coil used,
In this paper, an approximate formula of the transient voltage is theoretically introduced and ascertained to be actually effective, based on the experimental data obtained by measurement through a set of high speed Braun tube oscillograph.
It was proved that the wave form of the transient voltage is, in general remarkably damped, on account of the effective resistance of the choke coil and also influenced by the performance characteristics of the starter.
From these experimental results, it is suggested that careful considerations should be given to the wave form of the transient voltage, though after checked on the regulations, when it is desired to know the lamp-starting abilities of a starter and choke coil.
