The effects of the ballast impedance on the light output and lamp efficiency of the fluorescent lamp have been investigated experimentally, using resistance, inductance and capacitance as ballasting element.
The relations between the lamp efficiency and ballast impedance for each ballasting element have been compared and discussed. And especially the current regulating actions of the capacitance ballast for the variation of the operation voltage at the high frequency above 800 cycles have been discussed.
It has been obtained from the results that the lamp efficiency increases with the impedance of the resistance and inductance ballast increases at the constant current operation, but in the capacitance ballast the efficiency decreases as the impedance of the ballast increases. Also, the suitable capacity of the capacitance ballast for the high frequency operation above 800 cycles have been determined from the points of the efficiency and the current regulation.
