The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical effect of low power laser irradiation around the stellate gannlion in the neck. The hand temperature of the patients, who has disturbances of autonomic nervous system, was significantly increased after irradiation. Although we performed simple pressure stimulation of the stellate ganglion by laser tip, the hand temperature did not chang. In the recent studies, as a souce of hand temperature elevation, excess energy metabolism and blood stream have been documented. Therefore, we speculated that the mechanism of these changes may be due to the neurovascular responces through coat reaction of the autonomic nervous system.

The new method of interstitial hyperthermia using Nd: YAG laser, “laserthermia” was developed and used for head and neck malignant tomors. The ceramics laser probe for hyperthermia was inserted into the tumor and laserthermia was carried out for 20 minutes between 41. 5 and 43 degree centigrade. Twenty nude mice which were performed transplantation of anaplastic cell carcinoma obtained from human thyroid lesion were divided into four groups; laserthermia, cisplatin(CDDP), laserthermia combined with CDDP and control. Furthermore based on the experimental study, laserthermia was clinically applied to 21 patients with head and neck malignancies. Ten cases of them were treated as first therapy by laserthermia combined with irradiation before radical operations. Laserthermia was done once a week for five weeks and irradiation two Gy/a day, 50Gy/ 5 weeks. Other 11 cases who had recurrence and metastasis of head and neck tumors after some therapies were treated by laserthermia alone or combination therapies. The following results were obtained from the present study.
    1) In the experimental study laserthermia combined with CDDP was most effective
    2) In the clinical study, no malignant evidence of the resected speciment was recognized in five cases of laserthermia combined with irradiation group.
    3) Laserthermia effectively affected 11 cases with recurrent and metastatic tumors as reduction of volume and local control.

Laser has been used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and hypertrophic rhinitis for the past several years.
As we know, the Laser enables a surgeon to perform the operation with minimum hemorrhage and minimized pain, during and after the procedure.
Additionly many of these operations can be performed under local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia and on an out patient basis.
The Laser is applied to the mucous membranes of the inferior turbinates.
Vaporization and cutting is easily done.
    Post operative treatment is easy.
The advantages of Laser surgery over regular surgical techniques are supreme for intranasal operations when performed under local anesthesia.

Forty six cases of glottic carcinomas treated with CO2 laser or KTP/532 laser were reviewed. The 5-year determinate survival rate was 100%. The voice conservation rate was 96% for Ta and 80% for T1b. Vocal function was satisfactorily preseved for daily life. The results led to the following conclusion: 1 ) Lesions involving anterior commissure can be treated by laser excision and vaporization. 2) Glottic Ti carcinomas can be treated by laser surgery alone.
