The endoscopic spectral analyses of argon laser induced fluorescence from the gastro-intestinal cancer were recorded by way of the filter spectral analyser. The reading of 630 nm were commonly recorded concomitantly with various peaks of 660, 680, 690 nm. These spectra, including peaks of 630 nm, suggested that a red emission might be derived from the native porphyrin which accumlates spontaneously malignant tumors.

1) Because the light induced by the electric discharge of the Argon laser oscillator intermingles with an emission spectrum, it is necessary to eliminate it by interposing a suitable band pass filter between a laser oscillator and a fiber for laser irradiation.
2) The almost same emission spectrum is obtained when the coaxial optical fiber is placed in a vertical position to the material and for a distance of 0 to 2mm between its tip and the material.
3) The emission spectra are almost similar which are measured for three consecutive times in close contact with a same point of the resected,non-fixed gastric mucosa, and its noise is considerably eliminated by integrating them.
4) The difference of the fluorescent intensity between two points is never significant unless it is 30% and more.
5) The emission spectrum measured through the broken optical fibers for detection is intermingled with other light besides ture emission.

We have performed endoscopic therapy for thirty lesions in twenty three cases of early gastric cancer. I would like to summarize that endoscopic therapy is very useful for the treatment of early gastric cancer patients to whom surgical laparotomy is not applicable; Second, high frequency current is indicated for the endoscopic treatment of resectable, salvageable lesions and laser rays for unresectable lesions. The effect of endoscopic therapy on the well-differentiated type of elevated early gastric cancer can be expected. Conversely, the closely observation are essential for the undifferenciated type of depressed early gastric cancer after endoscopic therapy.

The endoscopic Nd-YAG laser treatment was carried out in 35 patients with gastric cancer. Eighteen cases were subjected to a trial Nd-YAG laser treatment before laparotomy and the resected stomach was studied histologically for remaining cancer cells and degree of tissue injury. In 9 of 18 cases cancer cells were eradicated in the treated area with laser. A few cancer cells were remaining beside and/or under the ulcer produced by laser in 6 cases. Endoscopic diagnosis defining the extension or the depth of invasion was wrong in 3 cases. Tissue injury was limited to submucosa in 13 of 18 cases. Muscular injury was found in 5 cases. In 11 inoperable elderly patients the Nd-YAG laser treatment was chosen for local cure. The longest follow-up period was 25 months and in this period the recurrence of cancer was found in 3 cases. The Nd-YAG laser treatment was useful as a palliative measure in 6 advanced gastric cancers.

In the present report, we studied about in vivo anti-tumour effect by photoradiation therapy (PRT) with proroporphyrin disoduim (PPNa) and hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD). To investigate anti-tumour effect by PRT, human hepatocellular carcinomas transplanted to the flanks of BALB/c/nu nu mice were injected intratumorrally 2 mg of HpD, PPNa or 0.9% NaCl 48 hours before laser irradiation (514.5nm, 0.1w, 30 minutes.) The results revealed that laser irradiation alone had no anti-tumour effect, while PRT with PPNa had intense anti-tumour effect (p<0.05) more than PRT with HpD. These results showed that PRT with PPNa may have clinical use.
