This paper describes the design and development of a miniature 4.2 MHz AT-cut plano-convex quartz-crystal oscillator module for use in the high accuracy clock or other various timing devices. The oscillator module is sealed into TO - 5 metal cold welded hermetic package which has proven to provide high reliability and manufacturing simplicity. we mainly discuss the following items: (1) AT-cut quartz resonator can be miniaturized by introducing the novel annular elec trodes for forming depolarization field. The depolarization field induced by the positive and negative charges appearing on the opposite surfaces modifies the strain in its turn. (2) The suppression of the unwanted modes is performed by the novel annular electrodes. The normal field excitation using the conventional annular electrodes resides in the stronger excitation of the unwanted modes as the plating extends to the edge. (3) The frequency adjustment of±0.1 PPM is achieved by introducing the newly developed. "functional trimming ceramic condenser" for abrasive trimming. A sries of experiments indicate that this oscillator module can realize high reliability e. g., an aging rate of of±0.1 PPM or less/year, as well as manufacturing simplicity.

In the stepping motor for analog quart watch, the reduction in power consumption and the stability in stepping motion are very important In the course of decreasing the power consumption of the stepping motor, there are cases where the machining accuracy of the components parts of the motor and the characteristics of material used will become a problem, mainly because these factors will greatly affect the rotation stability of the stepping motor. This paper describes a new drive system we have developed for stabilizing the stepping motion of the motor without changing the above-mentioned factors.

Diving technique is entering into the next new stage, and is being developed with the aims of "more deeply, safely and efficiently with higher technique". To accomplish these aims, consideratioh for diver's outfit under the hypressure helium environment and diver's environment is required. JAMSTEC has studied diver's watch as a part of diver's outfit, and has found some problems about diver's watch as follows. (l) Wet suit is shrunk by the pressure under the water and it makes some space between a band and a wet suit and the band becomes loose. According to our experiment it becomes more than 20mm so that the band of diver's watch should be flexible to cover this looseness. (2) Crown operation under the pressure is necessary thing for saturetion diving but it becomes almost impossible at the depth of between 30m and 300m, therefore using QUARTZ OSCILLATOR which makes less error is better for saturation diving. (3) As helium gas gets into a diver's watch and internal pressure becomes more than 12 Kg/cm2 in some cases when it is saturation diving, the pressure test of internal part is very important. In addition to that, as the extarnal pressure at decompression time, it is necessary to have anti internal pressure capability.
