As a series of the sonic technique application, especially relating to clock's buzzer, we have been planning the development of an ultrasonic saw for the electric material cutting. As regards the cutting of electric material, aluminum, glass epoxy and iron plates for example, by handy ultrasonic saw, the objectives of the present study are, (1) to investigate the effectiveness of the ultrasonic saw, and (2) to compare the surface condition cut by the ultrasonic saw with that by the hack and jig saw brade. Acoustic power tested here is 10W. As a result, it is proved that the cutting speed is several times higher than that by the hack and jig saw, however, the surface is much more rough as compared with that by the hack and jig saw. Although a loading by a plastic flow effect was observed in the hack and jig saw, it was not observed in case of the ultrasonic saw.

An object of this paper is to propose a new shape longitudinal mode quartz crystal resonator and to clarify its resonant frequency, frequency temperature characteristics and electrical characteristics, taking account of lateral motion. In analysis procedure, equation of motion for the new shape quartz crystal resonator consisting of a vibrational portion and two supporting portions is derived from an energy method. From the obtained equation of motion, a frequency equation is calculated and frequency characteristics, frequency temperature characteristics and electrical characteristics are analized. These results are compared with the measured values.

Many anologue quartz watches now most popular among watches, except some excellent quality watches, have a calendar function which requires the user to pull out the stem to the first position and correct the calendar at the end of the month. However, they have no perpetual calendar function in which the first day of the next month is automatically set at the end of the month. It is a great disadvantage to the user that the watch is not provided with a complete function free from manual correction of the date at the end of the month. To solve this disadvantage and to meet the needs of the market, we have developed a new type of analogue quartz watch with a perpetual calendar. In this paper, the system and the structure of the movement are described.
