A digital watch, which includes the infinite possibility of electronic circuits and the great advantage of Liquid crystal displays, has been growing and developing into a creative watch with a lot of functions, namely multi-functions. The author has been responsible in the company for developing a multi-function digital watch, searching for product provided with advantageous features of digital watches The present report is on a caliber A159 which has an alarm and stopwatch functions as a compact multi-function digital watch. A159 has a very unique construction such that the electro-magnetic type of a micro speaker is installed and that the window for sound radiation is arranged at the front of the watch case. Furthermore, it is thinnest and smallest in the world as an alarm digital watch.

This paper describes the divalent silver oxide battery for wristwatches developed in our company. Divalent silver oxide battery is very suitable for wristwatches because of its large capacity, but it is unstable in heated alkaline solution. We succeeded in developing stable divalent silver oxide battery by selecting optimum condition for the following items. (1) Reaction of AgO (2) Reduction of impurity (3) Addition of binder (4) Concentration of electrolyte

The method and the result of the analysis by the simulation for the motion of the step motor used in time pieces with quartz oscillator are stated in this paper. In the beginning, the equations regarding to the input circuit and the outhut shaft of the motor and the parameters in those equations are explained. Next, the step motions of the output shaft by the input pulse with the height e and the width τ are obtained by computer. Those step motions are classified into the normal one step forward motion and the other several abnormal step motions, and so classified motions are expressed by notations. The step motions obtained from the various combinations of e and τ are written automatically at as many corresponding points as possible in the e-τ plane by using the notations according to the above classification. In the e-τ plane, contour lines are drawn to enclose the same kind of notation and discriminate the other kinds. The plane drawn by the above mentioned process is named "motion map" The reason why the contour lines in the motion map are caused is explained in detail. The motion maps obtained from the simulation with computer and from the experiment by using actual step motor are compared each other, and it is ascertained that both agree farely well.

The brief description of the ion plating method and the modification in equipment are made. The method of ion plating by multi-cathode system and a general feature relating to coatings are described. The X-ray diffraction, hardness and spectral reflectance of TiN Coatings by reactive ion plating have been investigated. TiN Coatings deposited on polished substrates give brilliant gold-color and wear resistance. These coatings have advantages in decorative applications including watch cases.
