A electric Voltage corresponding to the environmental temperature can be obtained in a MOS transistor circuit operating in the range of exponential function. By use of this circuit as a temperature sensor, frequency variation of quartz vibrators due to the ambient temperature has been compensated successfully. According to this resuIt, it has been proved that the frequency can be stabilized within ± 1 ppm in a temperature range from 0°through 50℃, and a frequency compensating system for wrist watches more precise and more stable as compared with that used so far has been obtained.

The frequency aging of a CMOS crystal oscillator may be affected by the oscillator circuit as well as the crystal resonator included. This paper deals with the experimental study of the aging caused by the circuit itself measured With an unique System. The system has a wel1- designed oven in which a crystal oscillator is driven stably at a constant temperature. The two frequencies, i. e., the frequency of the ocillator and the non-reactive frequency of the crystal resonator, can be taken out of the oven selectively through a relay, and measured accurately by referring to the LF standard wave. Using a simple equation including the two measured frequencies, the aging of an equivalent load capacitance on the crystal resonator may be estimated, which seems to be the principal cause of the frequency aging. As the result of these experiments continued for more than one hundred days, the aging of the equivalent load capacitance has been found to be unexpectedly large. It should be reduced further in order to improve the frequency stability of the CMOS crystal oscillator. The details of the method and the results of the experiments are shown in the present paper.

A combination quartz watch (Caliber 8981) which has multi-information display by twin analogue and has electronic thermometer function using one IC chip has been developed in December 1982. The main features of this watch are discribed in the paper. The main points are as follows : 1. Twin analogue display Twin analogue display using two independent stepping motors has been developed, which is capable to indicate multi-information, i.e. seconds, alarm, dual time, and hour display for stopwatch. 2. Temperature function A low power consumption system for measuring temperature has been achieved by using an unique circuit, and the circuit for combining temperature and time functions has been also developed. By means of these developments, it has been made possible to add the thermometer function and the temperature memory function to the usual function such as normal time, calendar, alarm, dual time, and stopwatch. 3. Information transfer system The instant information transfer system from digital to anologue by pressing the button has been developed.
