Quartz crystal watches have been rapidly popularized. Consequently, thin and miniaturized types are desired in the market. To meet the needs of the times, we developed RIQUARTZ 590 and started its production in April, 1975. Double-Stator type pulse Motor is adopted for the RlQUARTZ 590 and its operatig principle and analysis are reported in this paper. In contrast to conventional Lavet type motor, a rotor is sandwiched in between a pair of upper and lower stators and six magnetization axes extend parallel to a shaft of the rotor, spaced at a uniform interval along its circumference. This construction of the motor permits the use of higly anisotropic magnets as a rotor. The direction of rotation of the rotor is determined by its initial shift of δ^.obtained by bending a tip portion of the stators. The rotor is rotated due to magnetic interaction of the magnetic flux at 4 gaps defined by the stators and that on the rotor poles as shown in Fig.4. For relevant techniques, following are introduced. l. A device for observing the magnetization mode of the rotor in which Kerr effect is applied, using magnetic thin film. 2. An analysis of the optical observations of static and dynamic movements of the rotors. 3.Measurements of parameters which affects the characteristics of the Pulse Motor.
