We try to design a new type head slider that has low flying height and high CSS(Contact Start Stop) performance with improvement of the air-bearing surface(ABS)geometry. Flying performance and head-disk contact force are estimated with calculation program to design the ABS geometry. Designed slider named TailTrailer consists of a transducer pad and pressurized pads. The transducer pad is small enough to be negligible lift force at this area, then the transducer can close to disk. Lift force that opposes to load force of suspension is produced at the pressurized pads. Flying height characteristics and CSS performance of this new type head slider are evaluated.
Some quartz watches employ an electric power generator as the energy source. Already on the market is the"AGS"brand of quartz watches which generate power from the movement of the wearer's arm. These AGS watches are being made smaller and thinner. As they become smaller and thinner, however, they also generate less power. It is necessary therefore to take steps to maintain the balance between the amount of electric power generated and the amount consumed if the watch is to be driven continuously without stopping. We had to improve the power generating performance and decrease power consumption in order to bring small, thin AGS watches to market. We previously reported the improvements achieved with respect to power-generating performance, so in this paper we will take up the issue of decreasing power consumption and discuss the development of a low-power motor.
A new movement for wall clocks is described in this paper. Up to now, there is no clock which have the two following advantages together, silence and long battery life. At present, some clocks are very silent but the battery life ought to be limited to aprox. one year. On the other hand, clocks with long battery life are loud and even noisy for some people. This new movement solved those demerits by the use of new gear construction.
