This study aims at the reduction of noises which are thought to occur mainly in the power windowmotor. The noise characteristics are obtained by using a model whose scale is 1.5 times of the actual one. In the experiments, the authors selected such parameters as number of slit, brushforces acting on a commutator and the surface roughness. From the view point of measures aiming at the reduction of the noise, the author may conclude that (1)the number of slit should be even, (2)the surface of the commutator be smooth, and (3)the deflection of the spring due to brushforces be large, that is, the spring must be flexible.

A Watch provided with the radiation thermometer function has been developed. This watch is composed of a newly developed thermopile module for radiation temperature measurement, a signal amplifier circuit made of the newly developed low noise operation amplifier, and a 4-bits micro-computer which 13-bits built-in A/D convertor. In this paper, the thermopile module and the unit of signal processing are described.

WE investigated to apply the bipolar flat motor for driving hands of an analog quartz watch to a vibration alarm motor of a watch. It is indispensable to be able to rotate the rotor with eccentric weight stably and high-speedly in order to take big vibration out of a vibration alarm motor. Then, we introduced a new drive method by which a motor can rotate self-encouragingly. The new drive method is a method that drives a motor synchronizing with the rotor position signal which is generated by a rotor position detection coil. By the new drive metod, the vibration alarm motor, nevertheless of small size and low power-consumption, is able to generate a big vibration force of about 20 gf.

Featuring the thinness and the excellent face illumination, Electroluminescence (EL) has a wide variety of applications. We have already commercialized wall clocks that allow you to read the time at night and alarm clocks that are more than 1000 times brighter than luminous paint. EL has thus not only contributed to enhancing the convenience of clocks by increasing their visibility at night, but also it is useful from the viewpoint of environmental protection because it can be used as a substitute for luminous paint containing radioactive substances. Further, EL has been used as the liquid crystal backlight in compact displays for watches. To find much more applications, EL sealed with film must be reduced in size. With this background, to reduce the restraints on the outside dimensions of EL and to cut costs, we have put nonsealed ultra-thin type EL to practical use. This paper reports on basic construction and characteristics of nonsealed ultra-thin type EL and how it has come to have wide application.
