Mercuric oxide batteries, silver oxide batteries, lithium batteries, zinc-air batteries, solar batteries, etc. have been examined for the power-source since appearance of electronic wrist watches. the silver oxide battery has widely been used as the power source of electronic wristwatches today beause of its voltage stability, high energy density, and wide operating tenperature. The reliability of batteries has been attracted special interest, as electronic wristwatches show the tendency to miniaturization, thinness, multi-function, and long-life. This paper reviews the analytieal research of electrolyte leakage and self-discharge that are the most complicated problems.

A CMOS voltage reference with new concept has been developed. It is generated from the difference between the threshold voltages of CMOS transistor pair. Basing on it a new Battery Ufe Indicator Circuit for electronic wrist watch has been designed and fablicated in a metal-gate CMOS process. Some fruitful results are obtained from these studies.

This paper presents the investigated results of a newly designed T0-8 type metal casing crystal oscillator module applied to a high accuracy clock. Typical construction of this oscillator module and its characteristics are shown. Here described the fundamental principle of newly developped mass production method to accomplish a plano-convex quartz crystal blank without cut angle error and to realize frequency adjustment automatically. A certain design method to avoid the behavior just like "an abnormal frequency change" due to the shape of plano-convex is presented. Finally, the stability as a clock is evaluated by computer simulation, resulting in the accuracy guaranteed quartz crystal clock with a very small accumulated error for four seasons.

Nowadays, digital quartz watches have a tendency to be multi- functionized. This report is concerned with the develop-ment of the quartz watch, "Memory Bank Calendar" Caliber M354, provided with monthly calendar display function. This digital quartz watch has been realized and put on the market by the development of specially designed integrated circuit and two-layer liquid crystal panel. The two-layer L C. panel has new advantageous functions such as monthly calendar and memory bank ones which enables to store any desired date.

The use of aiomic frequency and time standard is extending steadily in many fields of science and technique, especially relating to remote synchronization. From this of view, the accuracy of time and frequency standard, the precision of remote comparison by various methods, high precision clock comprison via satellite and the basic idea of clock synchronization are reviewed.
