A method was developed to create a relative evaluation of public housing reorganization projects, and the following results were obtained for Osaka Prefectural Housing. Principal component analysis showed that the data for Osaka Prefectural Housing can be reduced to five components. Cluster analysis showed that Osaka prefectural housing can be divided into 10 clusters, and that the characteristics of each cluster can be compared in a relative manner. Using the classification results, we proposed two priorities for project implementation for the Osaka prefectural housing to be reorganized in the next 10 years.

Investigating the interactions between workers belonging to different departments is essential to propose efficient and comfortable office layouts. In this study, we developed a method for improving the accuracy of the behavior monitoring data taken from BLE beacon equipped in an office building. Next, we developed a quantitative index for evaluating office layouts, which takes detailed workers' activities such as interdepartmental movements and communications into account. In addition, we developed a method to generate office layouts by optimizing the index value, and made comparative analysis using optimized layout and the actual layout.

On interior finish of 'retrofit architecture', there are two methods for concealing air-conditioning, lighting units, and their pipework newly installed in retro parts. One is to build false floor, wall, and ceiling on retro parts in order to conceal the pipework. The other is to partially cover the pipework in order not to spoil the visual appeal of the retro parts. We conducted a statistical analysis of 95 retrofit architecture in Italy to find out how these two methods were used differently. The results show that the balance between them depends on existing architectural conditions and MEP systems.

This paper focuses on full-time dual-earner households with kids under 15 years old (DEWKs) and studies their living situations and relocation trends based on the micro-data of the Population Census. Through the comparative analysis of DEWKs, dual-earner married couples (DINKs), and single-earner households with kids (SEWKs), the paper shows that the number of DEWKs increased rapidly in metropolitan areas. It also reveals that DEWKs tend to live in owned detached houses in convenient commuting areas around railway stations. These results imply that future housing policies need a policy-making process to consider these differences in residential trends.

This article considered the popularization of architectural sheet glass in modern Japan. The following points become clear.

There is no correlation between the price and consumption of architectural sheet glass in modern times. However, a strong negative correlation can be seen after the middle of the Taisho period. Until Meiji 20s early, the consumption of architectural sheet glass in Japan satisfied the demand for Western-style architecture. From the mid-Taisho period onwards, the price of architectural sheet glass fell, and the popularization of architectural sheet glass was promoted for ordinary houses.

This article examined the changes in the value of Japanese nails from the end of the Edo period to 1879, and compared them with the value of nails in the building specifications in the Dajokan Kobunroku. This article also compared the value of Japanese nails and Western nails. The following points become clear.

The value of Japanese nails declined after 1864 due to the importation of nail-rods. Comparing the value of Japanese nails in 1864 with that of Western nails of the same dimensions, the value of Western nails recorded a minimum of 1/26th in 1927 and 1936.

This study aims to clarify the overlapping between inside and outside generated by the arrangement of linear elements in published contemporary Japanese urban houses designed by architects after 1970. In the high-density urban environment, the overlapping has the potential to transcend the physical boundaries and generate the externality. Initially, the externalized internal area (Ae) and the area of linear elements (Al) were defined. Next, the spatial composition of overlapping and boundary characteristics were clarified. Then, 13 types of overlapping with different independence were summarized. Finally, the relationship between the independence of each type and the chronological distribution was concluded.

Early building evacuations focused on cities critical to air defense, but the target cities were officially expanded in June 1945, and in reality, they were expanded around the end of 1944 to include small and medium-sized regional cities. The largest number of evacuated buildings was recorded around March 1945, when nighttime air raids on major cities were common. Although the project was implemented in many cities throughout Japan, the majority of evacuated buildings were concentrated in the industrial areas of Keihin, Keihanshin, Nagoya, and northern Kyushu.
