By implantation to rat bone, the biological early response of a grooved titanium surface was examined by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. New bone was observed at the periphery of the test surface. The Ca/P atomic ratio was about 2 at the portion.

XRD patterns indicated that diffraction peak intensities assigned to hydroxyapatite (HAp) increased with the reaction cycle. We concluded that the reaction cycle greatly affected on the deposited apatite using the alternate soaking, and TiH2 was irrelevant to the crystallinity of the apatite.

Biomimetic synthesis of calcium phosphate materials through a process mimicking biomineralization is a very promising approach to prepare calcium phosphate coatings on dental Ti implants. The stoichiometric HA film formed with a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) technique is thought to be chemically superior to the amorphous plasma-spray HA film. rhBMP-2と石灰藻由来多孔質ハイドロキシアパタイトであるFRIOS Algipore を用いて複合体を作製し、ラット直接覆髄に応用した。直接覆髄剤として広く用いられている水酸化カルシウム製剤と比較したところ、早期から旺盛な修復象牙質が形成され、それは細管構造を有する緻密なものであった。さらに本複合体は壊死層の形成なしに修復象牙質を誘導したことからより生体親和性の高い材料であると考えられる。

The present study examines collagen biosynthesis in a bovine periosteal cell pellet culture system using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Western blot analysis. Under ascorbic acid conditions, expression of both collagen type 1 and procollagen type 1 in the supernatants was observed. These results showed that procollagen type 1 was converted to collagen type 1 and that bone regeneration was dependent on vigorous collagen biosynthesis.

Our aim in this study was to fabricate a porous bioglass using stearic acid as a pore agent. Cytotoxicity experiment in vitro indicated that the porous bioglass has high biocompatibility. Therefore, the porous bioglass can be a promising candidate of scaffold material for bone tissue engineering.

The data suggest that the abnormal maxillary nodular growth in specimen 2 is the consequence of a localized calcification process triggered by trauma. In specimen 1, dissolution of calcium from the caries affected area interferes with the normal odontoblastic process leading to the absence of any calcific deposit in the pulpal area.

Autogenous bone grafts are often used to repair alveolar and palate clefts, and are used prior to the placement of implants; however autograft reconstruction has some disadvantages. To reduce or eliminate the need for bone grafting, we developed an injectable material. The material is a biodegradable 3D composite scaffold that forms from β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) beads and alginate hydrogel. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pore size on the behavior of KUSA/A1 mouse osteoblasts, with the idea that these initial results in an in vitro cell culture system should help guide future studies.

Objective: The aim of this in vitro study was to determine the cytotoxicity of 3 different soft and hard lining materials which is used in prosthodontic clinic.
Material and methods. Meliodent (Bayer Dental, Germany) , Viscogel (dentsply.uk) and Molloplast (Detax Gmbh & Co., KG, Germany) were evaluated with MA-104, Vero and primary tooth root cell culture for 1,3 and 8 days.
Results. The results showed that the eluates from Viscogel was not cytotoxic, Molloplast and was cytotoxic(20%) on primary tooth root cell culture, On the other hand Viscogel was cytotoxic(10%), Molloplast was not cytotoxic on MA-104 cell culture. Viscogel(35%) was also found cytotoxic on Vero cell culture. Meliodent was not cytotoxic on all cell cultures
Conclusion. The influence of the cytotoxicity depended on the materials and type of cell culture tested. However, additional in vivo studies are needed to evaluate the potential toxicities of the prosthodontic dental materials during clinical operative procedures.

我々は、金属板との接触による細胞機能への影響を測定する新しい方法を確立した。この方法を用いて、銅板との接触により、空泡化、アポトーシスマーカーの低レベルの発現、おそらく酸化反応を介するシスチンの著しい消費の増大を伴う急速な細胞死が誘発されることを見出した。今回、銅の細胞傷害活性を減じる2つのアプローチについて報告する。最初のアプローチは、抗酸化状態(唾液、低酸素、ポリフェノールの添加)のセッティングであり、2番目のアプローチは、種々の割合に金を含有する合金の作成である。

Beta Tricalcium Phosphate, (beta-TCP) has been synthesized using two different methods which are precipitation and hydrothermal. Cytotoxicity tests were done to evaluate beta-TCP produced by both methods on human osteoblast cell. Results showed that beta-TCP prepared by both methods were not cytotoxic with the human osteoblast cells.

楔状欠損の発症因子の1つと考えられる過度の歯ブラシ圧に着目し、ブラッシングマシンを用いて歯質の磨耗に及ぼす歯ブラシ圧の影響を電子線3次元粗さ測定装置にて3次元形状観察と磨耗深さの測定を行った結果、歯ブラシ圧により磨耗深さは大きくなる傾向を示したが、統計的に有意差は認められなかった。

Diamine silver fluoride has been used to prevent the progress of dental caries and desensitize hypersensitive teeth. Unfortunately, diamine silver fluoride stains teeth black. We have prepared ammonium hexafluorosilicate (9000 ppm SiF) to overcome this drawback. It was found that SiF occludes open dentin tubules completely with silica-calcium phosphate precipitate, and thus SiF is useful for treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. It is unclear how effects SiF concentration on occluding ability of dentin tubules and composition of precipitate formed in dentin tubules. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of SiF concentration for the clinical use as dentin hypersensitive treatment. Several concentrations of SiF solutions (from 100 ppm to 19400 ppm) and simulated hypersensitive dentin disks were prepared. Occluding ability of dentin tubules after SiF treatment was evaluated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation and composition of the precipitate formed in dentin tubules after SiF treatment was analyzed with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA). SEM observation demonstrated that open dentin tubules were completely occluded with the precipitate regardless the concentration of SiF solution. However, composition of the precipitate formed in dentin tubules was gradually changed with the concentration of SiF solution. The Ca/P molar ratio of the precipitate formed in dentin tubules was increased with the concentration of SiF solution. It was concluded that occluding ability of dentin tubules was the same regardless of the concentration of SiF solution. However, the composition of the precipitate formed in dentin tubules was governed by the concentration of SiF solution.

The aim of this study was to evaluate intracoronal bleaching ability of the new bleaching agent with titanium dioxide and 3.5 % hydrogen peroxide.
Thirty fresh bovine incisors was used. All teeth were stained from the pulp chamber with fresh horse blood for 7 days until adequate discoloration was achieved. The bleaching agent with titanium dioxide and 3.5 % hydrogen peroxide was applied to the cavity and irradiated for 10 minutes using high power halogen lamp or 405-nm diode laser. After the irradiation, we assessed the effects of the intracoronal bleaching by measuring the color of the specimens.
Color difference showed a high score in both groups with no significant between them. Therefore, the use of the 405nm diode laser or halogen lamp in combination with a bleaching agent of titanium dioxide and 3.5% hydrogen peroxide may be an effective bleaching method for non-vital discoloration teeth.

It has been well-known that color of tooth changes with drying. The purpose of this study was to investigate the color change of tooth under the dry and wet conditions. Values of color difference increased and decreased with drying and wetting, respectively. Times for the drying and color recovery with the wetting were almost the equal.

Introduction: Gutta-percha is a dried coagulated extract of plants of Palaquium, these trees are natural inhabitants of South East Asia, particularly Malaysian and Indonesian rchipelago. These Gutta-percha yielding trees are medium to tall trees, in which a series of cuts (concentric or v- shaped cuts) are made to obtain the juice. The purpose of this study was to analysis on Component of three commercial brands of Gutta-percha used in Endodontics.
Material And Methods :Sample cones ,size #35,from roeko ,Hygienic ,Diadent brands were randomly selected, after burning out in furnace ,organic and inorganic phase percentage and presence of trace elements in each sample were detected and record using apparatuses such as SEM , IR,NMR, and Ion Chromatography.
Result : with slight differences in polymer /filer ratio ,78%+-2% for organic phase ,no significant difference was recorded among Sample ,SEM analysis detected Zinc , Barium and sulfur in Hygienic and diadent.
Conclusion: No significant chemical and structural differences among three commercial Brands were detected.

Commercially available fiber posts have tooth-like white color and are difficult to recognize it from the core when removes the post in need of endodontic treatment. Then, to recognize fiber post from core composite we propose a fiber post with pulp-like light pink color. The aim of this study was to confirm that a pulp-like colored fiber post was easier to remove than a conventional tooth-like colored fiber post.
The tooth-like colored fiber post was difficult to be distinguished from composite resin around the post. On the other hand, the pulp-like colored fiber post was easy to recognize. The operation time for removing pulp-like colored fiber posts was shorter than that of translucent and dentin-like colored fiber posts.

本研究では,歯科用測色計による人工歯の色の測定が可能かどうか検討した。また色の測定に影響する因子について検討した。歯科用測色計にはShade eye NCC(Shofu)およびEasy (Vita)が用いられた.測定が可能であった陶歯のほとんどがA色に判定された。硬質レジン歯では測定した結果が一致するものが少なかった。人工歯の測定する部位および背景色は測定した結果に影響しなかった。歯種では中切歯と側切歯は同一シェード番号であったが、犬歯は大きいシェード番号か色系統が異なっていた。

The good bonding between acrylic denture teeth and heat-cured acrylic denture base resin ensures the service time and longevity of the denture. This study evaluated the possibility of using silane coupling agent other than conventional mechanical retention as previously advocated. It was shown that silane can promote bonding between acrylic denture teeth and heat-cured acrylic denture base resin.

The wear resistance of acrylic resin teeth is a key factor in determining the function and service life of the removable dental prosthesis for the edentulous patient. The ability of acrylic resin teeth in maintaining the stable occlusal relationship over time may be influenced by this property. The linear polymethylmethacrylate shows less wear resistance compared to the modified composition of polymethymethacrylate based acrylic denture teeth.

The reinforcement of resin composite with fiber can improve the flexural strength of resin composite. This can be used in the stress bearing area intraorally such as provisional crown and bridge. This study intended to compare the domestic and imported E-glass fiber. It was found that 10% volume reinforcement showed comparable flexural strength to the commercially imported E-glass.

The purpose of this study was clarification of the effect of silane primer treatment on the surface structure and the cross-section structure of the TiO2-coating on the acrylic resin for denture base under a scanning electron microscope (SEM).
The silane primer treatment made rougher surface and thicker reaction layer than the TiO2- coating only.
This results imply the silane primer promote the adhesion between the TiO2-coating and acrylic resin.

独自に開発した音声認識による発語機能評価装置を用いて,健常歯列者のS音の発音評価を行った.本システムはマイクロフォンとノートパソコンから成り,発語音声を音声認識プログラムで時間・周波数方向の局所的変化を強調し,幾何学的なパターン認識法を用いて横文字2文字のラベルに変換し,分析,評価する.
健常歯列者35名に対して被験語を発音させ,[シ]音の子音部を分析し,適正ラベルの分布を分析した.
適正ラベルの出現率は85%を越え,歯列欠損者より安定して高い数値を示した.したがって本システムは義歯装着等による補綴処置効果の判定に有用なことが示唆された.

In recent years, the laser welding has been established as a popular technique in the prosthetic clinical scene. For the successful use of the laser welding, it is important to know the character of the laser beam and the target metal. In this presentation, we will describe the 4 kinds of attractive use of the laser welding as following situations:
1. Repair for framework and/or clasp failures instead of soldering techniques.
2. Additional reforms for the frameworks in cases of increasing of the missing teeth, such as, the change from Kennedy classification 2 to classification 1.
3. Constructions for the dental appliance without corrosion damage.
4. Surface modification for increasing the hardness of irradiated surface.

Dissolving Efficacy of % 2 Chlorhexidine Glukonat Mouthwash on Dental Luting Cements.

Introduction:
Dental cements used in fixed prosthodontics have the primary purpose of luting or sealing the cast restoration to the prepared tooth. A permanent luting cement should have high strength, low film thickness, be non-irritating to the dental pulp, and have low solubility. A critical property of luting cement is its solubility in oral fluids. If the cement dissolves at an unacceptably high rate, the tooth is susceptible to recurrent caries and the retention of the cast restoration can be compromised.
The aim of this study was to investigate the rate of cement solubility of 5 kinds of luting cements in chlorhexidine glukonat mouthwash using patients in vivo. These cements are; zinc-phosphate, polycarboxylate, glass ionomer, hybrid and resin cements.
Materials and methods:
The materials used in this study were;
Zincphosphate cement; Adhesor Phosphate (Shofu dental).
Polycarboxylate cements; Aqualox (Voco), Adhesor carbofine (Shofu)
Glass ionomer cements; Aqua Meron (Voco), Ketac Cem (3M Espe)
Hybrid cements; Fuji plus (GC Corp.), Vitremer (3M Espe)
Resin cements: Variolink II (Ivoclar/Vivadent); RelyX Unicem (3M Espe)
The specimens were inserted in the buccal flanges on the molar site of the maxillar complete dentures of 14 edentulous patients. 7 patients are told to use %2 chlorhexidine glukonat, others not to use any kinds of mouthwash solutions. After 12 weeks, the cement specimens were removed and the amount of solubility was measured with direct techniques. Scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluate surface topography after disintegration. The elements present in each cement were determined with energy-dispersive spectroscopy
Results:
The zinc phosphate and polycarboxylate cements demonstrated approximately equal solubility. Glass-ionomer cement exhibited significantly less solubility than did either zinc phosphate or polycarboxylate cement. The resin and hybrid cements are more resistant to dissolution effects of % 2 chlorhexidine glukonat.
Discussion:
Chlorhexidine glukonat has a dissolving effect on all luting cements but some of the resin and hybrid cements are more resistant than the others.

Introduction:
Nowadays, three-dimensionally reconstructed virtual dental model is widely used for various purposes. It can express tooth as a cloud of points which have unique coordinate values. Complex and sophisticated measurements and mathematical calculations, which are impossible with conventional models, can be made on these virtual models. The aim of this study is making average tooth form of Korean which must be different with other races.
Materials and Methods:
Dental cast sets were prepared from 100 students. Casts were scanned and reconstructed three-dimensionally using Rapidform software. First molar of both arches were isolated from virtual dental arch for making average teeth forms. After curvature and volume based alignment, the 200 slice curves were generated according to customized planes of samples. All curves of all samples were uniformly tessellated. Average points were calculated through tessellated points of all samples and reconstructed as polygonal three-dimensional models.
Because there are no standards for the average teeth forms, we compared the distances between specific landmarks of both average forms and average of each tooth form before alignment.
Results:
Using developed algorithm, average forms of maxillary and mandibular first molar were made (Fig. 1). They showed smooth line angles because of limitations of the number of points and a large number of samples. Distance discrepancy of landmarks between average tooth form and each tooth form before alignment was very small ranged from 0.03 mm to 0.35 mm.
Discussion:
Until now, gold casting is the most popular material and technique for the restoration of molars. However, new materials for milling technique are coming out rapidly and used in laboratory. This study would support milling technique through providing tooth template which can be expressed as 3-dimensional coordinates system. We expect that another virtual average tooth form for other races could be also constructed using this algorithm.
Conclusions:
Average teeth form could be used as a mold of resin tooth for denture. It will be also applied as a basic form for missing tooth reconstruction with the combining of CAD system. Another sophisticated algorithm will be developed in the near future for these purposes.

Our novel implant support system `BONE NAVI` with simulation and surgical guide has already been applied on trial to over 100 clinical cases in Japan. In restorative-driven implant therapy accurate implant placement is required. We developed two types of surgical guides to help enlarge the hole. One is a single guide method of fixing a guide on the bone and exchanging several inner tubes to guide the drill until the implant insertion. The other is a multi guide method of changing several guides with a different-size guide tube. The purposes of this study are to introduce the protocol of `BONE NAVI` system and to examine the accuracy of drilling when these two types of surgical guides are used in a pig bone.
By using BONE NAVI system drilling on the bone is expected to be done more precisely. Our system will be applicable for severe clinical cases that requires accurate implant placement, and the selection from these two systems will be possible according to the case.

We already demonstrated the accuracy of straight type zirconia 5-unit bridge (APAPA, A=abutment, P=pontic) was excellent. This study aimed to investigate the effect of post-machining sintering on the fit of the angled type 5-unit bridge by evaluating the cement thickness of the surroundings of the axial surface on the individual abutment.
