The paper gives a brief review of principles and features of OLED and its recent technologies. Generally, in OLED, luminance and lifetime are incompatible factors with each other. MPE(Multi Photon Emission) and S^3CM(Side Coupling Color Conversion Method) types of OLED are highlighted as a technology to overcome the challenge. Further, TOLED(Transparent OLED) transparent when the light is not emitted which has been developed by the authors, is introduced with its technical features and some possible applications.

We fabricated white-light-emitting organic electroluminescent devices with red, green, and blue light-emitting layers. The front-view luminance was enhanced by controlling the emission pattern. The organic electroluminescent devices were applied to an assistant lighting for an emcee or a newscaster. We call it "organic electroluminescent newscaster light". This lighting without glaringness is practical for the broadcast illumination because of the good color rendering property in addition to the low weight and the thin thickness.

The 5th Lux Pacifica Conference was held on July 23, 24, 25, 2005 at Cairns in Australia. This report has the summary of the conference. The total number of papers presented from seven countries was 53. Japan had 36 papers that were the most in the countries. Japan is a country that has emitted a lot of information about research and technology of lighting in Pacific Rim countries. Japan has the leadership in the quantity of paper presentations. The international organization committee of Lux Pacifica nominated Russia and Thailand for the country that would hold the conference of 6th Lux Pacifica conference on 2009.
