    As global environmental issues have become aggravated, “Eco” become one of competitive advantages in the business because of increasing consumers' environmental consciousness. However, it is difficult to lead eco-business to the success in both of environmental and economic aspects because of three features of eco-business; external diseconomies, unrecognition of environmental value in the market, requirement for restructuring of business model. For solving this problem, it is effective to support finding out Eco-business ideas. The purpose of this study is to propose the methodology that supports generation of eco-business ideas. This paper proposes the methodology, which has 8 steps, such as generation, settling, evaluation, through the investigation of eco-business and makes sure of its effectiveness through workshop.

    Minimizing environmental loads and costs throughout a product lifecycle requires appropriate lifecycle design. Design of a product lifecycle involves planning lifecycle strategies, evaluating them from various viewpoints and optimizing the overall picture. Product lifecycle strategy can be planned explicitly by describing lifecycle scenarios at an early stage of lifecycle design and the product should be designed to realize the scenario. This paper proposes a design environment for scenario-based lifecycle design. The main approach is to define a representational scheme of a product and its lifecycle in order to integrate them. Our method links a lifecycle model to appropriate product architecture and manages the consistency between them. A case study indicates that the relationship between the lifecycle and the product model is successfully represented on a computer and designers can design a product and its lifecycle in an integrated manner.

    Aiming to achieve highly effective polishing in the super-precision polishing of the glass substrate using for HDD,we have conducted a research examining polishing characteristics of the glass substrate cerium oxide and manganese oxide slurries, and a newly devised atmosphere control sealed CMP machine (Bell-jar shaped CMP chamber). Polishing experiment was carried in a radical environment by making the polishing chamber vacuum, or highly pressurized charging various gases inside. Polishing rates varied as the polishing environment varied. When compared with the conventional CMP, the polishing rate increased from 1.5 to 2.0 times. The above result suggests the effectiveness of the glass polishing in the pressurized chamber utilizing the atmosphere control sealed CMP machine. Furthermore this allows the polishing time shortened, leading to the reduction of slurry consumption.

    In high-aspect-ratio microdrilling, the optimization of low-frequency vibration conditions was examined. We estimated vibration conditions in terms of the chip disposal, cooling effect and cutting force. First, we calculated cutting time by the formulation of the relationship between the rotational angle of cutting edge and the axial displacement. We focused on cutting time ratio and positive velocity ratio. Cutting time ratio represents the ratio of cutting time to vibration period. Positive velocity ratio represents the ratio of time of positive velocity to cutting time. Furthermore, we mapped the cutting time ratio or the positive velocity ratio by the combination of frequency ratio and amplitude ratio. A strong correlation between these ratios and tool wear was confirmed by high-aspect-ratio microdrilling experiments assisted by low-frequency vibration.

    Due to vastness of vineyards in Hokkaido, it is very hard for their workers to eradicate weeds. In order to solve this problem, a weeding robot development with a multi-link manipulator using a visual sensing technique of stereo camera system for recognizing grape trunk is aimed in this research. However this technique lacks accuracy because the stereo camera system generally cannot avoid the error in measurement. Considering this problem, a method which define grape-trunk area was devised. Additionally, in order to compensate the visual sensing technique, a tactile sensing technique using the multi-link manipulator was used, which can recognize a grape trunk by touching it. In this paper, a robust sensingsystemusing both visual and tactile recognition for the weeding robot was developed.

    This paper describes a linear roller guide system designed for improving the vibration damping by using grease lubrication film. This linear roller guide has a very narrow gap between the carriage and top surface of the guide rail, as compared to conventional types for gaining moderate amount of friction force of the thin film of grease that provides the feed drive system with higher damping. In this study, the friction characteristics of the linear roller guide were measured and mathematically modeled in order to investigate the friction characteristics of the thin film of lubricants and the influence of friction on the dynamic behavior of the feed drive system. In the measurement of friction force, two kinds of grease with different consistencies and viscosities of base oil are filled into the narrow gap. Step responses in microscopic displacement region were measured and simulated in order to evaluate of vibration damping of the feed direction. As the results, it was confirmed in both experiment and simulation results that the grease flow characteristic affects the nonlinear friction characteristics and the step response of the feed drive system.
