This paper reviews some recent studies on national productivity of journal articles, and discuss the possibility of national productivity of article as the index of the research activity. Usually, databases are used for counts of articles, but there are some problems in use of databases.

The information network gave a boost to build and utilize database. The Science Information System set up by Japanese Academic Community is a typical academic information network. The library network is one of main projects and almost in fully operational stage at present within it. Our preceding paper "Upload and Download"(Vol.37,No.5) reported the interactive data-flow in the network. Now more sophisticated network linkage scheme (Case 3) was implemented, we could enhance our local modules of acquisition system and so on. This paper shows the integration between network and local tasks and its implication for library processing. Also a brief summary reviewing all the case of network linkage is attached at the end.
