This paper aims to discuss collection development and management in academic libraries in the digital age. This paper reports on the E-book PDA(Patron-Driven Acquisitions) Experiment, a programs of the Three Universities Cooperation Project, organized by Chiba University, Ochanomizu University, and Yokohama National University. This experiment lasts from April to September 2015. These universities differ from one another in terms of book selection policies, status of e-book collection, and problems of collection development. Meanwhile, they have a common challenge to select and acquire a bigger number of Japanese e-books. With the cooperation of a prominent book company, in the PDA experiment, the students at the three universities were able to sample many e-books. At the end of May 2015, the users' potential needs and the effect on promotion of utilization were observed. At the same time, the study indicated that more consideration is required to set adequate purchasing terms between venders and librarians.

This paper shows key characteristics of shared print by clarifying terms and differences between shared storage and shared print, and also reviews shared print policies. Lastly I will discuss implementation of shared print in Japan.

University library has four functions: function of learning library, research library, lending library, and reference library. Library activities like collection development, etc. must take the balance of four functions combined with function of deposit library. Author tried three times to open to the public the volunteer-based search system of Japanese open and free access e-journals in order to power-up of small and medium sized university libraries without requiring the expense cost and physical space. From my experience, I describe the measures and issues about maintenance of e-journals information.
