Recent big tendency on PubMed is change of interface of October, 2009 and additional correction of February, 2010. This paper explains Basic usage of PubMed and literature search based on Evidence and role of Medical librarian on EBM. Literature search based on Evidence explain based on five steps of EBM. It is making of PI(E)CO, search word based on Mesh, Limits of study design in consideration of evidence level. Furthermore, we introduce free online dictionary WebLSD (life science dictionary) which translates Japanese into MeSH.

PubMed is one of the most popular databases in life science and contains 20 million articles. However, these text data have few associations with other life science data such as DNA sequences and gene expression because the descriptions in articles are necessary to be recognized as corresponding genes and diseases. Meanwhile, integrated database project of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan attempts to have these databases more accessible and easy-to-use by organizing central repository of databases. Here, we introduce activities of this project to utilize life science databases including PubMed, and "free culture" in life science area.

PubMed is the data-base also widely utilized in the field of nutrition, and the methods of use are the same as in the case of medicine and pharmacy. In this article, the information searched by PubMed and reflected in researches in nutrition-related fields was investigated from keywords listed in Japanese journals. As a result, it was suggested that literature survey by keyword searches using PubMed is available for a lot of areas in nutrition and its related fields.

PubMed has become an indispensable database in the field of life sciences. Its user interface is improving steadily, and it is becoming increasingly user friendly. Beyond its own function as a database, we have developed a system, named CSLS Search, that enables users to process the search results by "clustering" according to keywords, which elucidates unseen relationship between articles in a search result. Our system also allows users to personalize their searches by storing results or adding notes on an article. We are expecting more effective use of information.

PubMed, a medical literature database operated by the U.S. National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), is widely used by ordinary Internet users, including medical and biological specialists, due to its easy access and advanced search functions. It is also used frequently within companies by information departments as well as business departments; however, there have been concerns over information security risks raised by performing search queries through public sources such as PubMed. These risks are said to be quite high, and the approach taken by information departments for the use of the PubMed database differs among companies. In this article, it will be discussed which approach should be adopted by corporate information departments for the use of PubMed by presenting cases experienced by our company.

The leaflet at the CrossRef 10th Anniversary was translated. The birth of CrossRef was a result of several incidents at the 1999 Frankfurt Book Fair. Publishers had been discussing how to effectively use DOI, and experimenting reference linking such as in the Carbon Fibre project. Through learning from such experiences, Pieter Bolman of Academic Press and Eric Swanson of Wiley confidentially started a project codenamed as Monzu in 1999, while a research group supported by AAP began working of the DOI-X project. The two streams joined together at the Book Fair, and headed for the establishement of CrossRef as a collaborational venture of all publishers in January, 2000.
