Image processing consists of areas of (1) image reconstruction, (2) recognition or understanding of an image, (3) image transformation, (4) image synthesis, and (5) storage and transportation of an image. In this paper, basic techniques of image processing for an image database are described. Especially, image processing techniques for intelligent image searching using feature extraction and pattern matching in (2) are shown.

At Audio Visual Center of Aichi Shukutoku University, we have developed an original audio visual database to make it easier for users to search the audio visual materials. With this database system, which was created on the UNIX, we provide a quick search system of information about audio visual materials, booth space, loan records, and the registration of individual student use of the system. We will introduce the purpose of this system and its features, functions, results and difficulties.
