The aim of this study was to clarify the current condition of the cooperation systems of departments or organizations in municipal health centers for multi-generational residents. From September to October 2018, we carried out an electronic questionnaire survey to administrators of municipal health centers all over Japan. We obtained a response of 102 projects from 51 local governments (response rate: 29.7%). As a result of the analysis, which was classified into four groups according to the generation targeted in each project, projects targeting multi-generation residents who cooperated with other departments or organizations in and out of the local government were more active than projects targeting adults and/or mothers and children. The findings suggest that multi-generation projects can contribute to community-building and human resource development and may foster a place for local residents to interact with generations in the future.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of intergenerational exchanges in Kendo on the image of among university students. The participants were 95 Kendo members from various universities in the Kansai region. As a result of the covariance structure analysis, it was suggested that physical factors affected solidity factors and virtuity factors, and eventually, accessibility was promoted. It is suggested that the practice of Kendo offers a direct interaction between different generations, which ultimately helps to promote accessibility.

Considering future intergenerational exchange in Japan, we introduced sixteen projects that were once practiced at the Center for Intergenerational Learning (directed by Dr. Nancy Henkin) at Temple University as well as show some recent Japanese practices. First of all, the Center for Intergenerational Learning at Temple University was founded in 1980 to promote intergenerational collaboration and exchange by providing innovative cross-age programs, training and technical support, and by disseminating materials. It played a significant role in intergenerational exchange programs not only in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but also nationwide (it is currently been reorganized mainly for university students). Regarding recent practices in Japan, the programs reported in issues 18 and 19 of Intergenerational exchange between Older Adults, Youth and Children magazine, published by JIUA (Japan Intergenerational Unity Association), a sister organization of the JSIS (Japan Society for Intergenerational Studies), were used for reference. We hope that a variety of grassroot programs develop based on the needs of each region and are put into future practice of intergenerational exchange in Japan.
