The purpose of this paper is to clarify how the educational theory of kana characters that was developed by the Kyoikukagakukenkyukai-Kokugobukai was introduced into Japanese textbooks of elementary school. In this case, it examined from three viewpoints: "teaching materials," "methods," and "character education." At first, the theory was examined from the viewpoint of "teaching materials." As a result, it was clarified that the Kyoukaken-model concerning the Japanese syllable structure, designed by the Kyoikukagakukenkyukai-Kokugobukai, had been partially introduced into Japanese textbooks issued from Gakko Tosyo and Nihon Shoseki. Next, it was examined from the viewpoint of "methods." As a result, it was clarified that a part of the teaching materials of both did not function in educating kana characters by the phonetic method of the Kyoikukagakukenkyukai-Kokugobukai. Finally, it was examined from the viewpoint of "character education". As a result, it was clarified that Japanese textbooks of elementary school were not based on "the view of learning characters" and "the view of teaching characters" of the Kyoikukagakukenkyukai-Kokugobukai.
