Carton is made of paperboard and displayed in showcase. The main function of carton is protection of goods and display effects. The issues of offset printing to improve are special color, solid printing, ghost image, hicky, register, ink-abrasion, light-fastness and heat resistance. The issues of gravure printing are arrow mark and ghost image. The main function of corrugated box is physical protection of goods and simple printing has been used. Recentry, preprinted liner of multi-color flexographic printing has been used for boxes of electronics products, fruits and beer.

The history and the present condition of flexible package are reviewed. Particularly, I take notice of technological developments of system and materials such as water paint, metallocene polymer, vapor- metallized film and so on. And under current situation that internationalization and environment correspondence is demanded, my personal opinion of future direction of flexible packaging is stated.

Recently large amount of metal cans have been used for beverages. For sales promotion high quality printing is necessary. Printing metod for metal cans is different according to the can type. Offset printng onto metal sheets is applied for 3 piece cans and dry offset printing onto curved cansurface is applied for 2 piece cans. As the future technology, direct printing based on the computer image processing technology and the laser exposure technology is expected.

Experimental film formation with a positive photoresist solution having various viscosities on wafers by spin coating was investigated. The baked films formed with the lower viscosities are thinner thicknesses at any spinning time due to the higher rates of outflow in the initial stage of the spinning and the higher rates of evaporation in the intermediate stages. Their minimum thickness deviations, which exist in the intermediate stages of the spinning, decrease and change to earlier stages. Those phenomena are more distinct at lower spin speeds.

By using a photohardening printing ink and a glass intaglio plate, the color filter printing process was constructed, which resulted in complete transfer of ink from intaglio plate to blanket by exposing the photohardening ink in semi-hardened state at the air surface of ink and moreover in hardened state inside the ink.
The surafce of glass intaglio plate was coated by a modified silicone resin, so the ink filled by doctor in the intaglio plate could be completely transfered from the plate to blanket, though a incomplete ink transfer has occured in a former conventional printing process. The obtained pattterns of color filter have sharper edge of line and the flatter upper surface of ink pattern than a Quonset hat shape of printed pattern by a former conventional printing method.

Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM) originated in STM and AFM have made remarkable progress. It can get not only the atomic structure and the surface topography, but the properties of material such as friction force, visco-elasticity and surface potential. In addtion to that, it is tried to detect chemical force. I'm concerned advanced progress of this analytical technology with typical theory and applications.
