Shaftless drive has been the global standard of web offset press due to the benefits of short makeready and simplification of mechanical driving systems to web offset press. Many softwares for waste paper reduction and cutting off makeready time have been developed with labor saver devices and contribute to increase printing company's profits. Double parallel and delta folding function of commercial web offset press can add values to printed copies. Variable cut-off commercial web offset press has been developed to eliminate inherent web press product size restrictions. Reusable plate system has recycling capability of aluminum plates and will save the consumption of aluminum.

Nowadays, the diversity has been in demand for the newspaper printing press, as the users of which, the newspaper-managements, have individual concern with the relation as to the balance of cost-management and management-philosophy, which are affected by the market-trend among the respective nations and regions over the world. More-colors in the newspaper and faster printing press are significant for the newspaper- managements as they consider about providing the services to their customer. More-color in the newspaper has been further improved by the utilization of the tower type printing units and shaft-less drive technology, and faster printing press allows delivering the most latest news to the readers, in meanwhile it creates saving in facility investment. Focusing on the environment and saving the cost, 4-by-1 press which utilize fewer printing plates than the conventional press in demand, in other side 6-by-2 press, which features high efficiency and decrease waste papers, are in demand by the standpoint of considering the environment, saving the cost, and further the productivity. Ultimately, the expectative technology regarding to the newspaper printing press should be flexible so as to satisfy the various needs of newspaper managements, who are facing to the many diverse situations and looking for the way to establish their cost-management.

In the printing industry, digitalization of prepress based on IT technology advances rapidly, and the efficiency improvement lead by them causes intensification of market competition. In cases for the printing machineries, new products are put into the market in order to handle such situation. Various value-added specifications are prepared for the press to satisfy customers' demands such as high print quality, short turn-around, low cost, and differentiation from competitors. Short-run web-fed printing presses are now entering the market of sheet-fed presses. By above reasons, more complicated specifications must be installed to sheet-fed presses.

A mathematical method for embedding bar code in color images was proposed. First of all, original color image was transformed into 2D FFT space, and the bar code was superimposed on the transformed color image given as a set of pictorial spectra. Then, the pictorial spectra were inversely transformed by applying 2D FFT, to get the original color image in which the bar code was embedded. To extract the original bar code from the color image, 2D FFT was applied. In this process, the superimposition on the absolute value of 2D FFT spectra gave better results than that on the real or imaginary part. In this paper, the difference between these two cases was studied. First, the two resultant color images embedded the bar code were compared to each other. The restorations of bar codes were completed in both cases. Next, the stability of restoration for mismatching between embedding and restoring area was examined. Last, the restoration of embedded image without original image was investigated.

A trimellitic anhydride (TMA) toner for use as a foam inhibitor in printing applications has been successfully synthesized by liquid phase separation which is a kind of the coacervation method. In this study, a mixture of lecithin and basic calcium petronate was employed as the charge control agent to negatively charge the TMA toner, since negative charged toners can be used in our printing system. The TMA toner showed good printing characteristics. Furthermore, foaming was successfully inhibited by controlling the print density of the TMA toner. The foam inhibiting effects provided by the TMA toner are sufficient to meet the requirements of high resolution professional printing. Our synthesis method proved useful for producing liquid toners, and liquid toners synthesized in this way should have wide range of applications in many industrial fields.
