Reliability engineering is not just a single engineering discipline, but like applied physics, it is also highly interdisciplinary. In order for equipment to be people-friendly and dependable, it must also have solid reliability.Through cycles of technological development and overcoming reliability issues, high reliability is achieved. Lack of reliability in systems that require continuous operation may evolve into a political and economic problem. This paper presents an approach to solving reliability issues that are becoming more and more important every year, along with specific examples.

In the last few years, quantum computers have rapidly evolved, becoming a familiar technology in our society. As their development gathered momentum, what is meant by a “quantum computer” has varied over time. This has made it extremely difficult for us to have a clear indication of their technological level and their readiness for real impact on our society. In this article, we will discuss the current technological status of quantum computers, possible development paths for them, and the potential technological impact they have on our current & future society. We will compare three alternate development scenarios and explore how the choice of development path will affect their future impact.

Nanodevices with nanopores and nanogaps are capable of measuring a single biomolecule using an electric current. Nanopores enable the analyses of a wide range of targets, including bacteria, DNA, proteins, RNA, and viruses. A nanogap is typically the core unit in single-molecule quantum sequencers, which are used in the determination of small biomolecules, such as DNA, peptides, and RNA. The applications of nanopores and nanogaps have promoted new discoveries in the field of biology, pharmacy, and medicine. They have been particularly used in innovative methods for diagnosis of diseases and digital platforms, which detect and identify a wide variety of biomolecules by optimizing the nanostructure to the measurement target.

If you think about it, advanced autonomous robots and autonomous driving systems also have many weaknesses and imperfections. Why don't you not only appeal that they can do this, but also expose your weaknesses moderately instead of hiding them? In this article, we will discuss how humans and robots will coexist in the future, by introducing the concept of “weak robots”, such as sociable trash box robots that cannot pick up trash by themselves, but collect trash with the help of children, and conversational robots that sometimes forget important words when telling children old stories.

Radiation is utilized in a variety of fields, taking advantage of its characteristics. In particular, it is widely used in the medical field, such as radiation therapy and diagnostics, and in the industrial field, such as non-destructive testing and sterilization. In these applications of radiation, not only the source of radiation but also the measurement technique of radiation is an important factor. In this lecture, I would like to introduce the current status and future prospects of radiation applications in the medical and industrial fields, as well as the radiation measurements that are necessary for each of these fields.
