1. This paper gives some measurement results of water distribution by the automatic sprinckler system in the golf greens.
2. The measurement method was based on technique of placing containers on a grid pattern (1m × 1m, or 1.5m × 1.5m) where the sprinckler performance is to be tested. The contents of the containers are measured in laboratory cylinder and the volume of water was conversed to millimeters depth. Various indexes related the distribution of water were calculated on the base of this measurement performance. A long time standard for assessing uniformity of distribution has been the coefficient of uniformity developed by J. E. Christensen.
3. The uniformity of water distribution was markedly disturbed by the velocity and direction of the wind at the time of measurement.
4. The coefficient of uniformity was strikingly increased with the increased number of sprinckler heads in this measurement.
5. After due this expriment and other Amrican measurement performances, from the point of view of water distribution uniformity or the ratio of high to low water catchment, it is probably difficult to apply the fungicides, herbicides or fertilizers to green through the automatic sprinckler systemn at present. The writers believe, however, the more basic research is required before the practical utilization of automatic sprinckler system with such objects.
