A) The purpose of present studies is to look into the forms and natures of various wild Japanese lawn grasses gathered in different places in Japan, and to find any local similarity, and further to study possible existence of any local strain or variety among them, thus to contribute in future study and utilization of lawn grasses.
B) Various forms and natures of wild Japanese lawn grasses were studied, and from among them six features of (1) length of leaf, (2) width of leaf, (3) length/width (leaf), (4) spread of top over the ground, (5) top/root (dry weight), and (6) number of leaves/number of nodes, were picked up, by which the objects were classified into a number of groups of similar features. As a result, it was found that those which grow in one locality tend to have similar forms and natures.
C) From the above research it is considered that a good number of strains exist among wild lawn grasses. By throwing a light to those different strains and varieties and to their various features, this report will be a help to future developments in the field of utilization.
